Blood pressure again ~

I keep reducing the BP meds I've been taking when it feels like my BP is too low and it's feeling that way again. When I say "feeling" what I'm talking about is the minor black outs when you stand up or get up from a sitting or laying down position. I started getting the black outs again about a week ago and I've been keeping track of my BP since then and it's running around 110 / 60 to 113 / 63. Those numbers don't see way off or too low, but maybe I need a little higher BP to be normal?

I'm thinking of cutting the Metoprolol off completely, I've already cut down from 200 MG to 100 MG to now 50 MG, which means I cut the 100 MG pills in half. The only other BP med I've been taking is Lotensin / Benazepril 20 MG.

Kerry-
Have you seen your doc about your BP meds.  It might be time to come off them all together or switch to a different family of meds.

Yea, I know Red, that would be the safest thing to do; but what's the fun in that? LOL!

Actually, every time I go see my PCP about something like this he looks at me like ~ what is the deal with you? You keep giving me all these weird things to solve; people don't get off their BP or Gout meds; they always need more of them. Then he kind of looks at me like I have two or three heads.

He's an OK guy, just totally mystified about the DS and everything that's changed over the past couple of years.

I'll go see him and see what he has to say.

That is a shame Kerry.  My husband and I have the same PCP and endocrinologist so by the time he had his surgery they had already been through it with me so none it was was a surprise to them.  The docs have been very happy to see my husband's BP and diabetes resolve.

Hi, Kerry!
Have you discussed this with your doctor?  Just my opinion, but I think I'd talk to my PCP about what's going on before adjusting my medication on my own.

Yea, I know Lisa; read my response to Red above. When I went to see him last time, he did change one of my meds to the ACE inhibitor I'm talking now. But it's a little strange going to see him when there's nothing really wrong, just that I'm getting better.

Hey, Kerry--
Red and I must have posting at the same time because I didn't see her's until after I'd written mine.

Sounds like your doc should be cheering you on not giving you a hard time for getting healthier!  Seems to me he should make you the poster boy for improving your health and plaster your pic and story all over his office!  If he's nice to you maybe you could ever give him a shred of "credit" for your success--even though it's you, all you!  (grin!)

He's OK Lisa, he's just not used to men my age getting off BP meds; they're all getting more and more meds. He doesn't really understand the DS, even though I've given him info on it; I think he's just so busy he hasn't really had a lot of time to really study what I gave him. He doesn't give me a hard time, he just looks bewildered ~ LOL!

He actually is getting a little better all the time, but it's been a slow process.

The symptoms sound like it might be orthostatic hypotension. My mother was diagnosed with this, and the hospital diagnosed her by testing her blood pressure three times in a row lying down, sitting and then standing.

They had to adjust her blood pressure meds (not just the dose, but they switched her to a different type). I would definitely suggest contacting your doctor rather than doing the med adjustment yourself.

I'll ask my PCP about that when I go see him. I hope I can just get off em, that would be soooo sweet!
