Larissa Lives!

I just talked to a very happy and relieved Larissa. The surgery went well yesterday. There was a mass of scar tissue between the bottom of the stomach and the duodenum which had to be removed, and unfortunately her pylorus was a casualty of war, but she still has a decent sized sleeve left.

The really good news is that for the first time in months, she does not feel nauseous! She's sore from the surgery and still NPO, but she said it's like the heavens have opened up as far as how she feels.  She's getting great pain management, and has a PICC line. She's already passed her leak test and has been up, walking.

The surgeon has also agreed to do all her follow-ups, labs, etc. from now on.

Thanks for all the prayers and swinging critters!!

Hi Anna,

Thanks for the update. What a relief that she is okay and hopefully going to be able to get down nutrients.

You said her pylorus was a casuality. Does that mean she now has basically a larger sized pouch with stoma?

Yes, I think she basically has a distal RNY now. She is still a little unclear on exactly what it looks like, but she does plan to find out, and get with Michelle for help with supplements.

Isn't this basically what Michelle (Vitalady) has?

Yes, but I have a standard issue pouch from my time. It was 15cc way back when.

I can eat reasonably now.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

I thought that was my understanding.  Thanks for confirming that for me!

I can imagine this woman crying for joy at this point.  I am so very glad she found a competent bariatric surgeon who was willing to take this on locally.  Thumbs up all around!
