Damn shrinkage!

Today I went in to document my weight and height, and got an unpleasant shock.   I've been going along for years thinking I was the 5'6" I was when I was 20.
Today they measured me at 5' 4.75".  Damn!

Okay, I'm pre-op and have a question.  I've seen how you DS losers (meant in the nicest possible way) have gone down in clothing, shoe, and even jewerly sizes.
What about height?   I'm hoping without the extra 100 plus pounds gone when I reach goal, I'll have less 'compression on my spine and will measure taller.

Any thoughts?

I guess the silver lining is that my BMI will be higher now.  I was worried that it being under 45 might make it more difficult for me to get approval after I fight for the DS.

No, dear heart, you're just getting old!  Just about everyone gets a little shorter as they age.

I've grown!  I used to be 5'9.5.  Then I'd shrunk down to about 5'8".  I'm back up to almost 5'10"!  You might just grow again!

I have seen other's post that they gained height after losing.  It is true that compression happens under great weight!   But, if your issues are bone loss, that might be another story...

There are quite of few people who gained inches in height as they lost weight. I unfortunately wasn't one of them but it does happen. Good luck on your journey!

I have definitely heard of people gaining height as they lost weight from exactly what you said - less compression on the spine.

I had this shock too. I went from 5-11 to 5-9... over the years...the only "good thing" was my bmi went up a few points, that helps with insurance requirements.... hope I get it back after..

I'm 24 years old and I used to be 5'10" (a year ago) and now I am 5'9".  I do measure taller after I work out and do some major stretching.

No doubt in my mind I"ll be back up to 5'10" post surgery!

I hear ya!!  I used to be 5'7 and now I'm 5'5 1/2.  I was shocked!  I'm 34, so at this rate I'll completey disappear by the time I'm 60 or so.

I'm hoping to gain back some height with the surgery too.
