I am suppose to pack it to make sure it doesn't seal up on the outside leaving all that unhealed gunk on the inside trapped.  They want it to heal from the depths first.  T

That makes sense!  Wouldn't want it creating a cyst.

Terri,
You've got to start calling tomorrow when the office opens and call every 30 minutes until you get some help. I don't like the idea of you going all weekend with no help with this.

Be a squeaky wheel. This is serious. You are NOT over-reacting.

Paul when I was packing my would it was so it would heal from the inside out... as the wound healed the hole was not as deep and eventually you could not pack it anymore.  I am not sure why they do it this way but it worked for me

I've been going thru this as well, and frankly it is horrifying to me...
the smell and the mess and ugh!!

Anyway, this past two weeks a couple of things were changed.  Instead of packing I am now directed to 'wick'.  I think you will want to clarify which is the approach they are asking you to do.

With the packing I was to get as much inside that opening as I possibly could.

With the wicking, I am to get some in there and lightly insert more.  I use the wood end of the sterile Qtip to get some into through the small outer hole and into the bigger unhealed space.

Also, with this wicking I was moved to "iodoform 1"x5 yard sterile packing strip" which comes in a bottle and you have to cut a length to use.  I got this and the sterile qtips at a medical supply store as my pharmacy did not have them.

At my local support group some people said a few weeks and others were seeping for months.
Sorry for that bad piece of news, and good luck to you!

I have two bottles of that that I never used, both unopened if you'd like them.  Hopefully you won't have issues long enough to need them ... not sure if the size is exactly the same but I never ended up using the ones that I purchased.  Let me know if you'd like me to send them out.  I can do that this weekend.

Not sure if you were posting to me, or other post, but would take them off of your hands.  Don't want you to have to spend a fortune on shipping though.  PM me if you want to.  t

You're right!  The Smell!  It isn't that strong, but I can always tell when my bandages need changing!  I know what you are describing, and I think I am suppose to wick, but still get it all the way in the hole.  They said not to pack it tight.  I think the little tight spot ends up so tight that the wick doesn't work at all.  The stuff they gave me may be iodoform, not sure and too lazy to run to the bathroom and look!  It is 2"x5yds, I do remember that.  I cut it in half today and it went in better.  My home health nurse said she would bring me some thinner strips tomorrow.  T
