Dennie, I love your bidet suggestion! I bought one pre-op on your recommendation and it's been one of my favorite DS-related purchases. The hubby and I have gotten so used to having it now that we joke about reaching for the handle even when we're not at home. I ordered some of this spray too since your suggestions have yet to steer me wrong. We're getting sick of orange-scented poo around here too. Thanks!

My husband complained about the orange-scented spray.  He said it made the bathroom smell ****rus-y.

Maddie-

Do you remember Ozium?  We used it in college to hide that "funny cigarette" smell.

You can get small purse size cans at auto supply stores, and I bought a large 17 oz. can at the car wash for 12 bucks.  It works like a dream!  It has its own smell, but it takes care of the odor with three short sprays, and lasts forever!

I was wondering if this is a huge occurrence with the Duodenal Switch? I am looking into having the VS but was curious about the switch, is it really that bad that you need a medical or industrial spray to cover the odor? Is it always there (the odor) or just when you have to go.

It's mostly an issue when you're a new post-op.

Later, it's usually an issue only if you eat something that doesn't sit well with you. For most people, that means carbohydrates, with flour and sugar being the worst culprits. It can also be caused by a bacterial imbalance, which can be solved by taking a good probiotic and sometimes a dose or two of Flagyl.

No, the smell doesn't just seep out of your skin. It is entirely fart/poop related. I live with two other adults and the bathroom smells no worse when I go than when they do, unless I've eaten something I probably shouldn't have.
