On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the worst hair loss, how bad was your experience. My friend had an RNY and lost ALOT on the top of her head, like in her bang area.

Hair loss won't deter me from having the surgery because I know it comes back, and the end results outweigh any negative side effects but I was just curious.

My hair loss was 0 infact it seems like my nose and ear hair is increasing!

No difference in my head hair or bang area hair ~

I had an RNY and then revised to a DS.  I thought I lost more hair with the RNY, it started at 3 months and stopped at 7 months.

This time around it started about 2 1/2 months and it's already stopped, I will be 6 months post op in mid August.

The first time around I bought everything recommended because I was freaking out, not knowing when it was going to stop.  This time I knew going into it that it wouldn't last forever and I've got pretty thick hair and didn't really care.  I didn't do or use anything special this time around and all went well.

So to answer your questions - with an RNY I'd say 6; with the DS I'd say 4.

Mine was about a 2 - I was the only one that noticed it (well, my hairdresser noticed but not until it grew back and she said 'oh my god, your hair is so thick!')

7/19/09 - DS with Dr. Alfons Pomp
7/11/12 -  tummy tuck, UBL, larg lipo sculpting of torso, lipo of "buffalo hump" with Dr. Sauceda

Hmm, I just realized something. If you read the posts, you will see that there's a common denominator for those of us who had no hair loss. We both had Dr. Rabkin ~ so it's obvious, if you don't want hair loss, go to Dr. Rabkin!
