Nothing sounds or taste good to me any more

I wasted alot of food just trying one or two bites of this or that and getting vetoed.  But that was OK.  Every little bit helps. These days will get further and further apart and you wont even know it.  I had the "morning sickness" for the first 4 or 5 weeks. I didn't really even noticed it stopped....well cut down seriously.  "Lurleen" still doesn't like mornings but we are working together better.  i think once I started eating a few more solid things it started to ease up too.

Someone suggested to me to nibble on one cracker before leaving bed.  DH brings me cup of 1/2 water 1/2 apple juice in the morning when he leaves for work and I take whatever vits I can stand with that and eat just that one saltine and it does wonders when I actually get up alittle later.

At this point I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  You're coming up on a good corner.

This is just today...not forever.

I've heard that taking your acid blocker at night sometimes helps with morning nausea.

If it's bad, you can ask your surgeon for an anti-nausea med.

I also second what the other Becky above said about being hydrated.  Make sure you're getting enough fluids in because dehydration can cause nausea, which makes you not want to drink and then you can get stuck in a bad cycle.

Oh, and as for nothing seeming good.....I still have days like that.

Hang in there!  It does get better!

The first few weeks post-op was very much  like being pregnant;  I had no energy and I was nauseated all the time. The nausea lasted for about 6 or 7 weeks.  It was almost constant, but then one day it was suddenly gone.  From what I've read here, this is actually very common after surgery.

I still have days when food seems repulsive, but as some others have posted, that is followed by a day when I can't seem to eat enough protein.  Today I don't want to eat anything, but on days like this, I tend to rely on protein shakes.

It does get better.

Not to worry, you are completely NORMAL.  It takes time and it varies.  It was at least 4 months for me.  And I got very depressed an went through a period of mourning for my dear old friend (food.)  The funeral was premature.  My enjoyment of food is now alive and well, and the best part?  Now it is guilt free!  Hang in there, it is going to get better.

Yup, that whole ghrelin thing is at it.  Meaning you are likely not producing it, your body doesn't recognize hunger and your brain is trying to figure all of that out.  Totally normal.  Sucky, but normal.

Try to eat every so often, even if just a bite of something, like a little peanut butter, or yogurt, or something like that.  Your body may not signal the need for food at the right time(s) and you need to try to get something in that tummy to keep it from getting grumpy.  Its a little trial and error, but hang in there.  Drinking will also help, and I kept a bottle of water at my bedside for several weeks and when I woke up to go to the bathroom, or just because, I'd sip.

Good luck, hang in there.

I am almost 2 months out and most days I still have no desire to eat. Every now and then I will feel hungry and then it will feel like I am completely starving but until that point nothing sounds appealing. Even the smell of food seems to make me sick. Sometimes I will think about food and think hmm that sounds good and then when I have it I just don't want it. Its quite frustrating.
