So the pain in my side turned into not being able to inhale.
So ... Ambulance-- ER--ICU--4 days in hospital.
Sucks I did everything to prevent it and somehow got two clots while having an ivc filter

Gosh! I am sorry to hear that you had such a hard time. I am glad you went straight to the hospital. Did your fever spike as well? Hope you are home and on the mend!

Even when you and your doctor do all the right things to lower your risk, you can't get the risk down to 0%.

I'm so sorry you are going through this...but it's possible that, if you hadn't done all the right preventative measures, you would have had one big clot that would have killed you. Not trying to minimize the seriousness of your two clots, just saying that the good things you did to prevent pulmonary emboli were still beneficial.
    Best wishes for your recovery!

As a survivor of pulmonary embolism in 1998, I can relate to your diagnosis. The filter and Lovenox probably helped out tremendously. I will be hoping and praying for a speedy recovery for you.

IVC filters protect from clots that come from the legs but emboli can come from anywhere and travel anywhere. It's good you sought treatment. I assume they put you on a Heparin drip and started you on Coumadin.

I had bilateral pulmonary emboli and am coumadin. Please keep us posted on your recovery.
