Today I'll celebrate!
It's here! One year ago today I had my surgery... wow what a year it's been!
I don't have the ability, like so many of you, to write so eloquently... I tend to ramble so bear with me...
No one can prepare you for this first year, so many changes physically and mentally. The journey is amazing and scary at the same time! I have no regrets, not one!
This is a great lifestyle, I have to think about food often, making sure I'm getting my protein and fluids in, it's become second nature. I eat every few hours. From the start I saw getting my protein, vites and fluids in as my job, and I've stuck with it. I believe the DS gives us the best post-op "diet" but along with that comes the responsibility of taking care of your supplements, this is not for everyone as we've seen on the boards which is sad because it's given the DS a bad name. I limit my carbs, during my major weight loss I stayed under 50 grams a day, it worked for me. Disclaimer- everyone has a different experience and what works for one may not work for another.
My wows, there are SO many.... a few of my favs- my husband could pick me up, I fit in an airplane seat, I have to move my seat up in my car I'm 6ft tall! I bought a pair of jeans that are a size 10 OMFG! I almost saved the tag! Towels fit around me, all the way around! I don't have to worry about breaking lawn chairs and I fit in amusement park rides!
There are many people that have helped me a long the way or inspired me- Jillian told me, you don't need to make this as hard as some people do, it was great advice! Kimberly, you welcomed me and helped me along the way! Julie, you inspired me and your kindness is astounding! Thank you to everyone that has cheered for me along the way and offered up your knowledge, it's had a huge impact on me! The West Michigan DS'ers are awesome too!!
People react differently to me now... just an observation.
Nothing has changed between my husband and I, but we had a strong relationship to start. He's been wonderful through this journey! I am a lucky woman!
I've started walking and I'm hoping to try a 5k if I can do it with my ankle (had torn ligament surgery). Meghan has inspired me! My daughter said she'd run it with me.
I feel lucky to have found this surgery, I was driving along the highway when I saw the billboard for GHP, I went in thinking I wanted lap-band! YIKES! Then I went to a seminar and saw what the DS did and thought, oh my! I want that one! So here I am 141lbs lighter one year later.
I still wear tank tops and skirts, showing my arms and a small portion of my leg above my knee. I am shocked by some of my body, my boobs are TINY, I've got a lot of skin on my arms and my thighs and my stomach. I'm okay from my knees down and my elbows down and my neck up! hehehe Everything has a price right?? I may do plastics in the future, good thing we are a clothed society! I love shopping for clothes now! Don't miss Lane Bryant ONE BIT!
I looked at my pictures this morning from the last year and it brought me to tears. My mind hasn't caught up with my body yet, I'm hoping it will some day.I feel just normal, average! I don't feel like I NEED to be done up all the time, although I like to, I'll go out in nice sweat pants and a t-shirt, never did that pre-op.
WLS has not made me happier, I think it's important to know this is not a magical cure for things that ail you... It changes you... I was happy to begin with!
The hair loss was very hard on me! I cried about it... I lost about half the hair on the top of my head, but it's growing back now! Not everyone looses lots of hair.
Here is my pre-op pic-

We took this picture this morning- I'll be wearing this outfit tonight!

And this one too- I think my butt looks small hehehe so funny to say that

Tonight I get to celebrate my day with a large group of West Michigan DS'ers, I can't think of a better way to do it than with some of my favorite people! I've met so many great people here and IRL through this site, I am thankful for all of you!

Be the kind of woman that when your feet hit the floor each morning, the devil says "oh crap! she's up!
6ft tall and tiny.. hehehe that's funny to me! Thanks Tessy... they are a nice linen pant and I didn't want them tight, and I got them at Nordstrom Rack for $14! They'll be good for this summer yet!

Holy Cow Lisa...You are so skinny! You look great :)
The hair loss has been hard for me too (I think those of us with thin hair to begin with really struggle with this). Thank god mine has just stopped...I was right on track with the 3-6 month hair loss phase.
Your post really gives me hope that I can make it there too :)
