7 years
It's my surgiversary. 7 years out today.
It's been a helluva ride -- best thing I ever did for myself. I still pay it forward, because I want others to know about what a wonderful thing the DS is.
Now the bad news. Since I went on an antidepressant in January for issues that developed after my first plastic surgery, I have gained 25 lbs. The carb monster has plastered itself to my expanding ass. I stopped exercising regularly as well, especially since I started my new job that required me to live in NoVA most of the summer (walking 0.7 miles to and from the office in the heat and humidity was enough to make me want to collapse in a sweaty disgusting heap and do no more).
I have been tapering off the AD, and I have an appointment with the psych this morning to see if we can drop it further and add some ADD meds to help with the attention problems I'm still having -- I hope it will be Adderall, which may help with the cravings as well.
My labs were pretty good this year, but not perfect. The Venofer infusions I had last September seem to still be sufficient for now -- my ferritin is still at 32, down from 70 immediately afterwards, but hella better than the 12 it had been before the infusions. My PTH is up at the top of normal -- I need to add more calcium, and I have upped my vitamin D to daily rather than 3 times a week. I need to add Vit K too -- waiting on my shipment from Vitalady. My liver enzymes were slightly elevated, but that may be from the ADs. All in all, thus the minor tweaks that the yearly labs are designed to catch, and the expected adjustments that need to be made to prevent problems from occuring.
I'm sure that once I get on a regular schedule, including exercising regularly, and get the carb monster under control, the weight will come off. It had better -- I don't have many clothes in size 14 anymore! I need to get back into my 10s!
I LOVE MY DS!!

Diana,
I am sure I am the first of MANY to say how much I appreciate your input on the boards. I always know that I will get the truth from you. You have so much knowledge about the DS and related issues and continue to help the rest of us. Thank you so much! I love your honesty and it is great to see how things go for those "before me." Congratulations on 7 years!

Congratulations on your surgiversary, Diana! It's nice (and reassuring) to be able to read the experiences of someone this far out.
You're on my list. My "must read" list, that is. Thank you for your dedication to paying it forward.
Wishing you well...

Hi Diana,
If it weren't for you, I wouldn't be here and I'm sure I'm one of many. I had read so many of your posts on both the main board and the DS board that when I met you I was a bit star struck!!! You were also the first person to help Randy overcome his fears since you were the first real life DSer he ever met. I love your style and your no bull**** attitude. Your help has been invaluable.
For all you have done for everyone here, WE owe it to you to kill that f'ing carb monster on your behalf. Really. It's the least we can do. He visits me often especially in times of crisis that ******* I know you will work thru these issues and come out better on the other side. And hey, a size 14 ain't too bad. Can't wait til I'm there myself!
Thanks for everything you do and I hope both of us can be back in town at the same time for a meeting really soon. Take care and God bless!
Cheers,
Cathy

Congratulations, Diana!!!! Without your input, I never would have done battle with California's DMHC and gotten my DS ... going on five years for me, come Dec. 12.
I've been on ADs continuously before and after the DS -- a range of them -- but they don't seem to impact my weight. Carbs, however, as we all know, DO. The carbs crept in, and in conjunction with a sedentary job and lots of work angst, 25 pounds have crept on since my lowest post-op weight!
Joined a gym last week, however, made a few appointments with a personal trainer, and am working to get those numbers down. Thanks to the DS, I know I can. 4-year labs were good, though I see the usual culprits that trend low and high after the DS doing exactly that. Still, Dr. K was happy, and I'm about to place an order with VitaLady myself.
Once again, thanks so much for all your help (we should do coffee sometime when you're not in NoVA), and CONGRATULATIONS!

Your life is a Merry- Go- Round right now so give yourself a break! I don't know what antidepressant they have you on but I loved Pristique. I had to go off because I was put on Savella (wonderful drug) for my Fibromyalgia. You can't take an antidepressant while on Savella.
Also would like to Thank You for all the insurance expertise that you give to us and for sticking around and paying it forward!!!!
Congrats on 7 Years!!
Barb I sent you a PM.

Congratulations, Diana! You are such an inspiration to so many here. If it weren't for you, I don't think I would have ever found out about the DS. Thank you for all the time you dedicate to pre-ops and others on these boards.
