Vitalady
I have the Vitalady Vites Schedule in front of me. Do most of you post-op patients follow this schedule?
If so, thats $219 a month in vitamins, and that doesnt include the protein shakes.
Would I save money by getting vites at walmart or GNC?
Im wondering are we exchanging RX Drugs (that most of us pre-ops are most likely on) for vitamins?

Has her schedule changed tremendously? The one I am familiar with is posted here:
www.obesityhelp.com/forums/DS/3815623/Trying-to-Paste-VitaLa dys-DS-Schedule/
Average cost for 30 day month = $76.20 Per Day 2.54
and that doesn't come close to $219 per month.
Post-op, I take everything on that list and more, and I spend maybe $50 per month. While I appreciate the work VL does and will give her my business any time I can, I can't pass up things like BOGO on multis and calcium citrate at local stores.
ETA: And yes, many of us did change existing or potential prescription drugs for vitamins. A fair trade, considering I got to hand in 150lbs (so far) and my comorbidities along with the prescriptions. It's like when you buy a brand new shiny appliance and they haul off the old broken one for free.

Yup, im a dummy! I read the price sheet wrong. The most current list says its $84.90 per 30 day cost. And the initial cost is $219!
duhhhh.
Still $84 a month is a lot of money for this single mom! lol. i will def be getting bogo at my local store.
Once i get an approval from ins, ill be stocking up like crazy! whot whot

I follow Vitalady's protocol every day. I am so appreciative of her knowledge, but that doesn't mean I pass up the bargains. Things like Vit C and others I buy at any old store. But I always buy my D-50 from her because you just can't find it most places--even online there are few places that sell it. Also, I did some research recently and found that most of her stuff is very competitively priced with other online offerings.
All her proteins are usually less expensive too. Just need to figure in shipping etc to really know. It is so worth the extra money to be healthy! Yay for us!

I have thought the same thing about taking more vitamins than prescription drugs, but there is a huge difference in how your body reacts to a BP med, and a Calcium Citrate pill! LOL
I know there are some of us morbidly obese people who eat salads and chicken and still weigh 400 pounds, but I think for the most part....and definately in my case, I am going to be saving at least $100 a month on crap food I've been eating during the month. So that will even out the vites and protein drinks for sure. Plus, a lot of the vites I should have been taking in the first place.....I'll just be double dosing them b/c of malabsorption.
I plan on placing my first order with Vitalady (because I am so thankful for her time and posting of all the info) but after that I will try to find vites on sale. Before buying at a store you definately should read the info posted on www.dsfacts.com about vitamins. It's very easy to spend money on the wrong types of vitamins when you aren't informed. I'm a nurse and I was still totally uninformed about reading vitamin labels.
ETA: and I gotcha on the $$$ thing....we are a one income family, hubby is a phoneman, and we have 4 children! I guess they will all just have to eat rice and beans while I drink my protein shakes and take my vites :)

Hmm, I think something must be off in your math. I take some "cadillac" vites (Primal Defense Ultra, Calcet Creamy Bites and Proferrin ES), and even my monthly costs aren't that high.
Personally, I get my Calcium and Multi from a warehouse club (BJ's). I can get them dirt cheap there, and in bulk. A, D, E, K and Iron I get from Vitalady. You won't find the doses we need of those in any local store, and the other online options aren't as cost-effective (or as great service) as Michelle.
The rest of my vites (zinc, B-12, folic acid, copper, etc.), I sometimes get from Vitalady, sometimes from BJ's and sometimes during BOGO sales at CVS, Walgreens et****ep an eye out for bargains, but sometimes it's just convenient to get everything from Vitalady.
I spend much more on vites than I ever spent on meds pre-op. The only thing I took was a PPI for my GERD. I spend way less on french fries and ice cream though, so there is some balance.
My health is priceless, and I'd pay even more if I had to.

you take the calcet creamy bites for calcium and you get them at BJs?
Not that I like the calcet creamy bites but I just didnt think they sold those in regular stores.

No! Sorry, for the confusion. They do not sell the Calcet Creamy Bites at BJs (oh, I wish they did!). I order those from Celebrate online. I only do one creamy bite a day because they are expensive. It's my mid-afternoon treat. The rest of my calcium batches are regular Calcium Citrate tablets.
Daily, I do:
3 doses Berkley & Jensen calcium citrate tablets (2 tabs, 630 mg per dose)
1 Calcet Creamy bite (500 mg)
Total: 2390 mg
