What is good on a sore throat?

I caught strep throat from my son and am trying to figure out what DS friendly food would feel good on it. In the past it was a milkshake or nice warm bowl of pasta. I know those are not options now and I hate broth so I am looking for any other ideas.

tea, frozen popsicles or shaved ice - crystal lite makes some good ones, cloraseptic spray, maybe peppermint if you can handle it some people can't tolerate it.

Ibuprofen or acetaminophen do the trick as well.  I would always suffer with sore throats and try everything from warm tea to sal****er gargles, until I tried the drugs..lol.

i  had strep about the same amount time out of surgery as you.  I would take pain medicine a half hour before eating, do a sal****er gurgle and then eat.  I enjoyed protein milkshakes at that time too, mixed chocolate protein with milk, pb and ice.  Hope you feel better soon!

Try Homemade Jewish Penicillin it has always worked for me.

Ingredients

  • 1 (3 pound) whole chicken
  • 4 carrots, halved
  • 4 stalks celery, halved
  • 1 large onion, halved
  • water to cover
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon granules (optional)

Directions

  1. Put the chicken, carrots, celery and onion in a large soup pot and cover with cold water. Heat and simmer, uncovered, until the chicken meat falls off of the bones (skim off foam every so often).
  2. Take everything out of the pot. Strain the broth. Pick the meat off of the bones and chop the carrots, celery and onion. Season the broth with salt, pepper and chicken bouillon to taste, if desired. Return the chicken, carrots, celery and onion to the pot, stir together, and serve.

Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions. Dh got me some ice pops and tomato soup for tomorrow. I also made the chocolate/PB shake and that did help out a lot.

Some 7-11's (quite a few of them) carry one flavor of SF Slurpee.  If you have Rits Italian Ice places, they have at least one SF option too.  Make your own slushies out of crystal light.  Warm tea- peppermint & chamomile with imitation SF honey (can get Walmart) and lemon.  Avoid dairy, it coats your throat.  SF popsicles.  Tomato soup with sour cream and cheese.  Wonton soup,  Wendy's chili.  Egg drop soup.  Barely frozen protein shakes.  Barely frozen diet soda.  Hope these help, and feel better soon!
