Protein Deficiency

OK.... you know you know... now do it already!

Protein, protein, protein.  Eggs in the cake mix don't count honey, gnaw on a chicken leg, pop a boiled egg, eat cheese, drink milk, shoot protein shots, boil some quinoa, kill a cow or two...
It's them or you.

Crock pots are easy tools to use and make mass amounts of protein.   Make all the dogs in town follow you because of the bacon in your purse.   Whatever it takes.

You can do it!

(This bag is filled with protein, and the can is a protein shake.)

You guys are stars!!

Thank you so much.

I have been eating but not enough cos it's always on the run and whatever I can grab from a takeaway en route to somewhere else.

I will look for the unflavoured, haven't been able to find it til now but I'm going to start carrying a thermos of fortified milky coffee.. should be about 50g of protein in that and I can just sip all day on it.

I boiled up half a dozen eggs earlier so I'll take some of those out with me  tomorrow and I've got a joint of pork I'll roast in the morning and take some of that out with me also.

Vitalady does ship over here and I get my vits from her but I always get hit with hefty excise charges and I don't think she's allowed to send protein shakes over - hadn't thought of amazon, will check there too.

I was hoping my mama would be more stable after today  so I could arrange to see my surgeon but unfortunately not, and she's about to go for endoscopes n stuff (it's after 11pm here) to find out why she's projectile vomiting bright green alien goop.  She has a tumour in her colon which has blocked everything up but she's too sick for them to be able to do surgery to get it out - the anaesthetic would likely kill her.  I do want to get her transferred to my surgeon as the hospital she's in isn't known for the best quality of care or expertise.

Thanks again everyone, I will reply properly to all of you in the morning xxx

I drink this brand pretty much every day, my favorite flavor is cookies & cream, but this is all that shows up on Amazon UK:

www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_noss

Sorry, I can't do a proper search right now, I'm on  houseboat at Lake Powell and internet connection is really slow.

Kerry

Edit to add; the Champion Pure Whey tastes very good, I would drink it just because it tastes so good.

Lot's of us are very busy. Caring for parents, kids, jobs, school.

You have to make your DS a priority or you won't be around to care for anyone else.

There have been threads in the past about portable protein or low-carb items. I'll list what my go-to foods are.

I pack a 2 lunch boxes every day. One with cold and one with not cold foods. I also pack a ton of water. I either keep these in the car if I'm doing a lot of driving or carry them with me. Therefore I am never tempted to have to buy something quick.

Cheeses. Mini baby bell, cubes, string, etc...
Beef jerky, slim jims
Almonds and nuts
cheese and ham breadless sandwiches. (thick slices of cheese with mayo and ham. I double/triple deck them and eat them like a sandwich)
Greek yogurts. I either buy the single serves (which are pretty high carb) or mix my own sweetener in the larger tubs and use smaller tupperware)
peanut butter on rice cakes. Again like a sandwich.
Protein bars
Low sugar pudding

I like Chike Nutrution shakes (chocolate) which I buy over the net. Not sure if they ship to you, but their service is EXCELLENT.

Hope these things help. It sounds to me like you are very sick. Ignorance may be bliss for a while but eventually you are going to have to really face up to what you've done to yourself.

I know how very very difficult it is to care for an ill parent. But you still have to take care of yourself.

I hope my idea helped.

Thanks beeper.. some of those food ideas are great and very doable!

for now I have tuna salad, egg salad, some bacon cooked and ready to go and a shoulder of pork I can just cut slices off and take with me.

It's not just a matter of being busy at the moment, I seem to be running on adrenalin, I'm doing roughly 12 hrs per day in the hospital and even when I leave I'm often having to dash back because she's had a medical emergency - I even take my phone with me when I shower!

I am going to make a point of prioritising my DS needs and organising my time better so that I can pop into the supermarket and get what I need so I'm prepared always.

Check with Kirmy about how she's gotten her recent shipment of protein powder. I think it came from Vitalady but don't recall for sure.

I am so sorry your mother is suffering so. Could this be all the more reason to get with your surgeon, to get two things done at once maybe?

I will dig out the crockpot and defrost some meat.. that's the crazy thing... I have a freezer full of meat and fish, just not eaten it!

I'm also going to buy some kind of insulated lunchbox type thing that will keep foods hot so I can carry meals.. I love things like chilli and curry and it might make me more inclined to eat it if I can keep it hot.  The hospital won't allow reheating of foods.. some health and safety regulations bull****

Thank you for the bag of goodies - really made me smile

Hey girlie!

I went through a short period of protein deficiency and it was awful.  I'm so sorry that you are going through this.  First GET YOUR LABS DONE GIRL!!!!  <------  That's me showing concern.  Now, when I talked to Michelle about my low albumin, prealbumin, and low protein levels, she told me to start drinking six 35g protein shakes a day.  Dina told me to focus on getting eggs.  I recently read that oysters are one of the most absorbed forms of protein, so if you eat oysters...now's a good time.  I drink Champion Nutrition Pure Whey stack in the chocolate flavor.  It's my absolute fave and I've tried A LOT of them.  As long as you're getting a protein in the form of a whey isolate, you'll be good to go.  I drank one upon waking, another two hours later, and tried to drink them all through the day every 2-3 hours.  It was time consuming, but it put my protein levels up so I could avoid TPN with my doctor, and more importantly...the swelling stopped and I started feeling human again!

Good luck honey!

You might want to try Syntrax Nectar Sweets--Chocolate Truffle. It's the only protein shake I can stomach right now and I've tried lots!  Not too sweet, no yucky aftertaste.  I use 1 1/2 scoops in 8 oz water for 36 grams of protein.  You can get it through Vitalady and online.
