Flu shots, anyone?

I get a flu shot every year and thankfully I have never had any flu-like symptoms after receiving the vaccine.  I also have had the pneumonia vaccine because I have had pneumonia either 2 or 3 times in my life and the thought is that once you've had it you are more susceptible to getting it again.  No thank you!  The pneumonia shot is not an annual vaccine.  It is good for several years before needing another shot.

Thank you for that information!  I wonder, since I had aspiration pnumonia, if I should even bother.  I aspirated stomach acid, thanks to my crapband.  Maybe I'll just give my pcp a call on Monday.

According to my mom who works at NIH, the new vaccine this year also includes H1N1 so the reaction to it will likely be more severe than normal. It's normal to have mild flu reactions following this kind of vaccination though, so it makes sense that the reaction this year will be stronger than usual.

As for the pneumo****al vaccination, they typically recommend this for folks 65 over, people with certain health problems (diabetes, heart disease, emphysema, HIV and any immuno supressive conditions, spleen disorders, organ transplants) and a few other conditions and also American Indians and native Alaskans.

Best to ask your doctor.

Why are you stressed about seeing Dr. S?

What everyone else said...

I have a flu shot every year due to COPD and asthma. I'm fixing to get my first pnumonia shot this year too. Hope neither make me feel like stomped **** but it's better than getting so sick I end up in the hospital. I'll take the chance with a sore arm and cruddy blah feeling for a few days. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

Sorry you're feeling puny! I think it's a crapshoot. I had mine last week with no probs, but 2 other ladies in my office had symptoms like you're describing. I don't think it's because of your baby DS. Feel better soon, hon!

Thanks, Anna.  I can't believe I'm up this early, but my headache woke me up.  Still sneezy, achy....blech.  I think I'll spend the day sipping hot tea in my jammies.
