I am such an idiot, I took a bite of food before getting my blood drawn

I scheduled my blood draw for 7:30 am today and was about to walk out the door when I packed something quick for lunch and without realizing took a bite of the food I was packing (rice from some of my rice with chicken). Ughhh!!! I didn't even realize what I had done until I had already swallowed the bite. I was tempted to try to bring it back up, but my body was not having any of it (not to mention I HATE to vomit).  I still went in for my blood draw, and didn't tell the lab tech what I had done.

My blood was drawn about 15 min after I ate my bite of food.  Will this have dire effects on all the blood they drew? I am freaking. But I didn't want to cancel my draw either because I had already sent them the slip yesterday so I knew they were waiting for me.

Can anyone tell me what tests can come out wrong because of my mistake? Here is what was tested:

CBC with differential

Comprehensive Metabolic Panel

Copper

Fasting Lipid Panel

Ferritin

Iron

Folate

Pre-Albumin

PTH, intact with calcium

Vitamin B1 ( whole blood)

Vitamin A

Vitamin B6

Vitamin B12

Vitamin D, 25 Hydroxy

Zinc, Plasma

Vitamin E

Vitamin K

First off there is no self bashing allowed on this forum~!~

I have no medical training but I think the only think that the intake of food will affect is your blood sugar values. And your fasting lipid panel.  If the numbers come out wonky, just have the ones done that could have been affected but hopefully all will be well :)

Let us know how it all turns out!

Was it really just ONE small bite within 15 minutes?  If so, it won't drastically effect anything.  The only things in your test it could effect would be the CMP & Lipid Panel.  They didn't do an A1C on you?

Yeah it was. I had just finished packing my lunch and without thinking I put a spoonful of rice in my mouth and ate it. As soon as I realized what I had done I felt horrible, but I couldn' t take it back (trust me I tried). I left immediately to go to the lab which is about a mile from my house so I could get my blood taken as soon as possible, hoping it wouldn't affect the results. I got there 10 min after the bite and was immediately taken to the back so I am guessing my blood was taken 15 minutes after eating the bite of food.

They didn't do a A1C, just the blood work I previously mentioned. I am hoping it won't affect anything, but if not I will get those 2 re-tested. Thank goodness it could only affect those 2 and not all of them. BTW my cholesterol is always super low, so I am not really worried if it comes back a little higher. But if it does I will admit to my PCP what I did before she freaks out.

Thanks!! you have put my mind at ease. I tend to worry myself sick about any little thing.

I can't answer your question, but I can make you fell a little less dump :)...I've done the SAME thing!!!   It is easy to do.  Hopefully someone can give you some idea.  When I asked the person drawing my blood she said...yea it can make a difference...but no real HELP!  For me it was just annual blood work, but it included sugar...and my bite was of a waffle!  And I don't think it made any difference.  Good luck!

You're having this fit about ONE BITE of rice? Relax. It's meaningless.

I know... I know... I am a worrier. I can literally worry myself sick about  ANY. LITTLE. THING. Just ask my mom. She says I inherited it from my grandma... a perpetual worrier herself.

That is why I figured I would ask about it here, otherwise I probably wouldn't stop worrying about it for the freaking week it takes to get the results back. Now I feel a whole lot better.

It'll have a negligible effect on glucose and triglyceride levels only.  Serum folate levels can also vary between fasting and non-fasting states, but not drastically.  None to worry!

It won't do anything to your results. Please don't worry.
