Sudden BLINDING stomach pain

Last night when I was falling asleep, I suddenly developed a BLINDING pain throughout my entire stomach area.  It was the worst pain I have ever felt.  I was waking my husband to take me to the ER when I started salivating like mad.  So I knew then I was going to vomit.

I threw up like crazy.  Then I was fine.

The thing is, the pain I felt was NOT nausea.  It was TOTALLY different.

I took some cough medicine with codeine in it before bed, but I have taken it many times before with no ill affects.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Could it have been something you ate? Maybe it's a stomach bug or virus? Maybe you should call/see your doctor, especially if it happens again.

Previously, when you took cough medicine with codeine many times before with no ill effects, had you had your DS already?
If so, were the conditions the same, that is, on a full stomach, empty stomach, whatever?

Thoughts:
You should of went to the ER.

Advice:
See your doctor. Just because it went away doesn't mean it wont come back.

Hope it doesn't return and you start feeling better soon.

Do you still have your gallbladder? Sounds like an attack.

I second the gall bladder attack. I used to vomit with no nausea. Mine was removed at DS surgery-was yours?

without any other info....I third the gall bladder too. I've had this about 4 or 5 times, and I know it was gall bladder. Haven't had DS yet, but will have the gall bladder out with my DS.
now...if your gb is out...hmmm, don't know - I'd go with something to do with the medicine you took.
I'd get in touch with my Dr. if I were you, just to make sure.

I'm allergic to codeine and that's how I felt when I took it and threw it up.

someone had a good point about the cough medicine and if you had taken it since your DS or just before.

About 2-ish months out I had TERRIBLE pain in my stomach area.  Moan and cry out loud pain.  Called the surgeon.  He said to try a suppository, although I don't think that was it, but I did use one.  Within a few hours I felt normal again. So weird and no explanation.

I hope it doesn't happen again.  B

My gallbladder was removed.

However, this is my first time on this medication since my DS.

I spoke to my surgeon today, and he said to let him know if it happens again.  He seems to think it is related to the cough medicaion.  : )
