I have a question for the lap DS people
How long was it until you returned to work? My job is somewhat physical. Alot of standing and walking.
Also, here is a question for any DS people. I was just at a DS meeting and one of the ladies said that they were drinking over the weekend. She said it was strange, she would have a drink, get really drunk and then be completely sober a short time later. I don't know what kind of time frame this exactly took place in. But obviously in a quicker amount of time than a normal person without DS. Here's my question. Later on down the road.....let's say I have a shot, Im drunk, then Im sober and I do this a few times......lets say with Tequila. Say I have 4 tequila shots in a course of a night. At the end of it.....I am 100% sober....or so I feel. Am I legally able to drive? I don't know if anyone would know this unless they were married to a cop! LOL!

I was off 7.5 weeks, but then again, had the DS just shy of my 56th birthday.
As for drinking - shouldn't be drinking for at least a year after your DS... now that said, drink**** me fairly quickly. I do try to eat before drinking. But after it hits, then it wears off 45min - 1hr later and I'm doing pretty good. Without a breath analyzer, not sure what you would blow... I did get my daughter one of those keychain breath analyzers for Xmas last year.

Chris,
So thankful to read this post from you. I'm 55 now and will be shy of 56 by the time I get my DS. I've been feeling very out of place e.g. to my age and getting this surgery.
Do we have as good of a success rate as those that are younger?
Sorry for stealing this thread, just so thrilled to feel I wasn't alone d/t my age!

Don't worry about your age Diane, I was 56 when I had the revision to DS. It was pretty rough because I was on the OR table so long being a revision. I actually had to have two surgeries to get all fixed up. But after a couple of months, I was feeling good again and I would do it again in a heartbeat.

Answers to all 3 ?:
I had a lap DS and was back at work in three weeks with no big problems - I have a desk job.
Drinking is not recommended for health reasons - the liver is v stressed by the new configuration and new enzyme pattern to digest all the fat so we do not wish to stress it some more with alcohol.
I also asked the dr. if i was too old at 55 for the DS and he said if anything it is the best thing I can do for my health - add at least 15 years to my life. Now 9 months later i am v happy and feel a lot younger already - mobility, sleep, breathing, no comorbidities, fun.
