I had mine done open so I can't help you with your first question.

As to the alcohol. When my friends and I go to Dubai or Bahrain, they order something to have at the bar with us that I can eat on all night long. That way I can last with them. Yes the alcohol hits you faster and yes (especially with food) it leaves you faster. However, when we go, we set out to stumble back to our hotel rooms (Hey! Kuwait is a dry country and when you only do this about 2 times a year what the hey.). So I can't recommend driving after wards.

Hi!
I was back at my desk job 8 days post op, I worked a few half days then back to full time. I was tired, but it felt good to get back into the routine.
As for drinking- that is individual and not something to try in public! If I'm driving I'm very careful if I have a drink, there have been a lot of horror stories about post ops drinking...

i'm going to bet that you're not really sober after each drink .  you lose some of that terrific buzz, but you're not really sober.  so, if you do this four times, each time it will take longer and longer to lose the terrific buzz, and you will be nowhere near really sober after the 4th chug.

don't drink and drive, period.  don't take the chance.

I teach music and direct choirs.  I went back to school-wide inservices (which just involved sitting) at two weeks and one day post-op.   School started at 2.5 weeks post-op.    I'm on my feet all day.    I tried to do some seated lesson plans for the first couple of weeks and I took a nap every day after work till about week five.  All of a sudden - I realized that I didn't need to nap anymore.     We Kemmeter folks seem to heal up pretty efficiently.

In regard to the alcohol - I get drunk quickly and get sober quickly.  I posted last night about strange alcohol problems I've been having, but I seem to have the best luck with a shot of tequila (and lots of salt and lime).    I'll take a shot and feel it REALLY fast.   It wears off within 45 minutes.    I rarely drive while drinking - I'm a big weanie that way - so don't know about the driving part.   I'd also recommend one of those breathalyzer thingies - we got one to use with my daughter after she and Captain Morgan had a wild ride down the Big Sable River one day last summer, and it does register if you are over .05 or under .05.   We purchased it at Bed Bath and Beyond.  My daughter now calls that store "Bed Bath and Breathalyzers,"  LOL.

Im not going to go out drinking and driving....LOL!   However, past practice is that I have gotten to the bar early around 9pm or so.   Had a couple of drinks to get a buzz, be done drinking by 10:30pm and drink pop the rest of the night.   But usually  my husband and I take turns.   One drinks, the other drives.    In reality, we haven't even done that in years either.  I was more curious as how alcohol effects a DS person.    Just trying to understand the effects.

The only difference between how alcohol affects me post-op and how it did pre-op is directly related to body weight, as far as how quick I get buzzed. BUt I do find that I sober up, well, 'cleaner' I guess you could say. No hangover, etc.

I have a somewhat  of  a desk job, some lifting/bending walking. I was tired first 3 weeks after  surgery. things  turned around by 5th/6th week and went  back to work 7th week.

Now as  far as  booze ..for my B-day  i did have  wine  2  small glasses in a  4 hr  period (9month  out) it hit me  and i was  in no condition  to drive. Now at 18 months out  i have tried beer and  i feel bloated and burp,  Brandy and coke  I get gassy. ..  a GOOD brand of Tequila  1/2 shot(s)  I got  my buzz on!  That will last  a couple  of hours or so...

but  for real  even though you feel sober ..most likely  u  r not  . DO  NOT DRINK and DRIVE
get a  cab to be  on the safe side and LIVE ;>)

I was off 2 weeks. Pretty much a desk job, but I was feeling pretty amazing at 10 days considering the surgery I had. I had the surgery on a Monday and returned to work full-time 2 weeks to the day.
