Got to meet some great DSers in Orlando on Saturday!

One of my surgeon’s requirements before surgery is attending 2 support group meetings. There are several in the Tampa area but none specifically for DSers. Someone told me to contact Redhaired and she invited me their group in Orlando on Saturday. DH and I made the trip and I was so glad we went. I met some wonderful people including Redhaired (Red) and her DH. I wanted to thank all of them for being so welcoming and sharing their stories with me and my DH.   It especially helped him to meet people that have had the surgery so he could ask questions and share his concerns. I don’t know any of the others OH screen names, so if you are out there and reading this, thank you again!

I grew up in Orlando and came thisclose to have they RNY through a surgeon in Ocala. This was about 8 years ago and at that time (as far as I was aware) there was only the RNY and the band. Insurance denied me and we ended up taking a transfer to NC. I'm honestly thanking God every day for that unanswered prayer. I now have the DS and am thrilled with my choice.

I'm happy to hear that there are surgeons in central FL who are now performing the DS. I wish you the best!

Actually I am traveling to Marietta GA to have surgery with Dr. Dennis Smith.  Unfortunately, there are still no DS vetted surgeons in FL.   I thought about revising from the band to the RNY and could have stayed here in FL for that but decided it was worth the travel to have the DS.  I am happy for you that you made the right choice for you!

Maybe we will be able to go to the Feb. meeting together.  Red even mentioned getting the three of us together when she comes to Tampa for surgery.  Of course with the wedding and your upcoming surgery, we will have to see.  I am so excited for you - both for the wedding next weekend and your upcoming surgery!
