Why is my hair so dry and frizzy?

Before surgery I had pretty nice hair.  (I thought so.)

Now that it's growing back in it's a dry crispy nightmare.  It's so frizzy my husband, who never says anything about my appearance, looked at me the other day and said "You have to do something about your hair."

I've used hot oil, conditioning packs, bought more expensive shampoo and conditioner and nothing helps.  It seems that my last resort is to get it cut short but I hate to do that since I've been growing it out for the past year.

Is there a nutritional reason my hair is like this?  Could the biotin be causing this?  Any suggestions and ideas would be appreciated.   Thanks.

My D was low and PTH was high when I had them done a month or so ago.  I did up my D to 100,000 just a little over a week ago.  Also doubled my A just in case I wasn't taking enough.

Are those they only labs you had run?

I would increase your fats and hydration.  What is protein intake like?  Hair is made up of protein so if you aren't getting enough I would think that might also be part of the issue.

My hair went from very, very curly to straightish.  So the texture totally changed as my hair grew back.  That might be part of the problem.

I'm sure I could use more protein.  Had to go back to the shakes to get it all in. My intake was low for a while there. Water isn't an issue though.

I would push the protein and fat.  How much protein are you getting from shakes now?  What were your protein, albumin, and pre-albumin levels at your last labs?

I'm at work right now and don't have the numbers here.  I'm getting 50 grams of protein from the shakes and about 50 from food.  Have to up the protein some more I guess.

My hair is the exact same as you describe. I worry about my protein intake, but my D was actually high at 6 months. Had to cut back to 50,000 3x/week instead of daily. T

My labs were all fine at last check, but my hair looks like I've stuck my finger in a light socket and I have never ever before had frizzy hair. It helps to water down your shampoo so that you're using as little as possible, because shampoo dries out the hair and makes it more frizzy. Try never to shampoo two days in a row. At every other shower, I just put my hair up on top of my head and don't even get it wet. I've even taken to slicking it down with anti-frizz serum when it gets out of control. I'm starting to feel like Everett in O Brother, Where Art Thou with his Dapper Dan.
