Have two weeks to up Vit D...

I have been taking 45,000 - 50,000 iu's of D every night.
I will not maintain this, but have done some research regarding getting D up quickly.

When I tested in Feb I was in the mid 20's. I need to be in the mid 30's a week from this coming Friday in order to get my surgery date.
I just picked up 500mg of Magnesium. I know that Magnesium paired with the D3 helps the D metabolize more efficiently.
What amount of Magnesium should I take to maximize this effect? Does anybody have experience with this?
Let me know if I am doing something stupid.... I value your vetted opinions and experiences greatly!

I don't know anything about the magnesium helping to metabolize the D3 but I do know that my primary care doctor started me on 6000 IU daily in September when my tests came in at 16. In two months I was at 67.

The way he explained it to me was very simple. You can take all your D at once and 'fill your tank' and then maintain with 2000 IU daily. What I don't know is how much it would take to do that. He did tell me that it wasn't toxic and your body will store it and not flush out the excess.

An added perk was the great energy I felt and how quickly I healed after surgery. So from what I know, you are doing the right thing pumping up the D.

Always the best wishes, Sue

YOU can take a tiny dab to maintain, but as a DSer, she'll prolly need to stay on 50K or more per day for life.

That 67 neighborhood is where you want to be. I don't think your dab will keep you there, but pay attention and you'll be ok.

P.S.  My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.

I'm confused. What exactly did you take to raise your Vitamin D level that much?
I've been trying to raise mine but it isn't going anywhere.

Lisa, she had the VSG and she doesn't have the malabsorption that we have. What are you currently taking and in what dose? What is your current level?

Most of us use the Dry D3 from Vitalady. It's a very tiny capsule of 50,000IU's. I'm able to maintain good levels by taking 1 per day. Others take 2 to 3 per day.

They had me taking 50,000 IUs once a week and then 5000 IU once a day. The D3 is use I buy at Walmart and it is a little softgel. I can't raise my level past 19.  The last time I took the 50,000 IU I had terrible diareah for the rest of the day. Is this possible I have an adverse reaction to it? When I take the 5000 IU once a day I'm fine. It's time for me to get a comlete blood test (on everything) again so I'm curious to see what my Vitamin D level is.

Any suggestions?

First of all you are taking the wrong kind. Anything in a softgel is going to be oil based and you're not going to absorb it, you're just pooping it out. It needs to be in dry form. 5000 iu is not even a drop in the bucket for us. With a level of 19 you should probably be taking 100,000IU's for a month or so and then test. If you can raise your level into like the 80's range you could maybe back down to 50,000 iu a day. You just won't know until you see the lab results. You should order the capsules from Vitalady and start taking those. A lot of people have to take the much higher doses like 100,00iu daily for life.

100,000 IUs a day? That is high isn't it? Any side effects?
So where can I get dry D3 if I want to start right away?
