Does the fat help avoid gas from carbs?
I recall someone saying how if they have fat with the carbs, in this case popcorn, they didn't have a gas problem later. Someone also mentioned crakers with butter. I believe it was Elizabeth.
Is there a way to have carbs and keep the gas under control? I'm hearing that Gas-X is good to use. Anyone ever try Beano?
I know everyone is different. I just hope I can eat fruit after the surgery. I'm missing it so badly right now with my low carb high protein pre-op diet. My daughter was eating a gram cracker and I was tempted to tackle her for it. I'm going a bit crazy.

Let me preface this by saying that this is a your results may vary kind of thing. I happen to be quite sensitive and get gassy easily. Popcorn never gives me gas, so that's a moot issue. Sometimes I think that adding copious amounts of butter to items containing white flour helps, other times I think it does not. Interestingly, I have less gas with high quality European breads.
For me, the only way I have found to keep gas under control is to not eat wheat! Other things that give me gas are, whole wheat flour, barley, rye, flax and spelt. Graham crackers are the devil for me! Buckwheat does not give me gas, nor does corn, rice or potatoes.
Gas-X does not work for me for intestinal gas. It does help for a gurgly stomach, like if I've had some ice cream or something containing milk. Beano has digestive enzymes in it, and even though it does help prevent gas, it also helps you absorb all of the calories from the food you are eating, so I tend not to take it.
Fruit, unfortunately, also gives me gas. I ate quite a bit of it a couple of weeks ago at a meeting (pineapple, cantaloupe, and strawberries) and was gassy all afternoon. Dried fruit especially bothers me.

There is no such thing as "naughty" eating ways. That's negative self-talk. I'm 11+ years post-op. I eat whatever I want. I just know that I will pay a price for certain foods, so I'm cautious about when and where I eat those things. But I eat them. And if I don't want the pounds to creep up, I have to watch the carbs.
For example if I eat a bowl of ice cream, I know it's going to result in some nasty smelling gas for a while, and in some diarrhea some hours later. So once in a while when I have a craving, I eat a bowl of ice cream when I know I'm going to be home for the whole evening.

I'm very sensitive and get gas (huge painful bloating) easily.
Popcorn has never caused this. Neither has anything made of corn (like corn chips). I can also eat chips or crackers made with rice. It is wheat gluten that bothers me. That and sugar alcohols and lactose.
Butter on anything with gluten doesn't help me.
I notice that my sensitivity to sugar alcohols has lessened some. I avoid wheat gluten (it's everywhere!) like the plague. I avoid lactose too.

Be careful with the Gas-X it can give you constipation. I don't know about the beano. If you take the Gas-x (I use it if I eat sweets, I know bad bad me!) and it really helps.
I do use fat with my carbs. Butter with popcorn, crackers, I also use Quinoa, instead of rice (high in protein and lower in carbs etc.) Potatoes with sour cream.
I don't seem to get bad gas when I do. I also take a really good pro biotic, this I feel makes me way way less gassy!
