Just met with the dietitian and I think a little bit of my brain is melting out of my left ear.

I just got lectured for over two hours on how I'm not eating enough grains or fruit.  I tried to explain that on my surgeon's diet I'm only allowed berries and just sparingly.  I also told her that I'm not supposed to have any grains, but i allow myself a sandwich on a multi-grain sandwich thin.  My surgeon only wants me to have no more than 54 g of carbs a day.  She said my surgeon doesn't know what he's talking about.

I mentioned that I used to occasionally have a coke and she immediately interpreted that as being my only source of liquids.  Not true at all.  I tried to explain that I'm not a snacker, I don't drink calorie laden beverages, and she looked at me like a was a drug addict telling her what she wanted to hear.  She of course didn't believe me that my children don't eat that way either.

Also, in her opinion, I'm consuming far too much protein.  She later retracted that after calculation and said I need 100g a day.  That's what I'm doing......

She is also against weight loss surgeries in general, especially malabsorptive ones.  She says the surgery will eventually kill me by significantly shortening my life.  This of course is caused by the lack of vitamin and mineral absorption.  She said that I could lose the weight without surgery if I really wanted too.  I assume she thinks that I've loved being morbidly obese for 12 years and it never occurred to me to lose any weight.  I did tell her that I'm getting the surgery and it will actually save my life.  She just brushed me off.  Said something about coming to my senses.

The only reason I saw her was because it was required by my insurance.  I felt like it was a huge waste of time and 25$.  She was condescending and told me my surgeon didn't know anything about nutrition.  Have any of you dealt with anything like this?  All I can say is I'm not going back.

My head hurts.  (gray matter dripping)
Band to DS

Unfortunately, I had to delete this post due to privacy concerns.

Got a lap band in 2008. Tried hard, but didn't lose much weight & developed swallowing problems. Fought my insurance company for almost a year & finally had a band to DS revision on 5/11/12. Have now lost 125 pounds. Yay!

For pre-op required NUT appointments we recommend the nod and smile approach.  Try not to let it melt your brain.

I chose not to do post-op NUT appointments since I knew I was not going to get correct information.  I refuse to pay for crap.

Other folks chose to continue to see their NUTs post-op and continue to smile and nod.

She tried to get me to do a follow up appointment. She wants to see me every 2 weeks. Thanks, but no thanks. I just hope I've fulfilled my obligations for insurance.

this wasn't beve kindblade was it?  please bear in mind that at srikanth's office the majority of his patients do not choose DS.  he's a great surgeon, and perfectly capable, but the nutrition fliers and whatnot are all geared toward the other surgeries.

i had to see beve for 6 months, and i found her pleasant, but by the same token...  use other resources to learn what you need to for post-surgery.

No, it was someone here in the Tri-Cities.  She has no affiliation with any doctor or surgeon.  She made sure to make that very clear to me.

Thanks for the info though. :)

Most of these "nuts" ... have very limited knowledge ... they get their certifications and never bother to think past what was force fed (if you pardon the pun) in their little school books.  Disregard what these NUTS tell you.   Most of them couldn't put together enough GOOD info to keep a monkey fed properly for 2 days.
