Just met with the dietitian and I think a little bit of my brain is melting out of my left ear.
OMG, this sort of thing, while not directly related, shows both the ignorance of the doctor/dietician (this was the psych eval, right?), and the reason skinny people don't understand the true difficulties of being overweight.
When I talk with skinny people, its the same concept, Just eat less, exercise more, stop stuffing yourself, and life will be "normal". However, overweight people have a consistent, yet different story. It involves uncontrollable urges to eat, depression and self loathing due to our "failure" to lose weight, and a consistent story of hundreds of pounds lost, then regained plus a few. My wife, whose high weight was 127 when she was 9 months pregnant, only recently started to understand the psychological depression and self-loathing associated with my weight. Yet, elsewhere in life I have been highly successful, as an entrepreneur with multiple businesses. I've pursued many lofty goals and have achieved most. Yet I couldn't beat the weight thing.
If this doctor really knew his stuff, he/she would know that an overwhelming majority of weight loss efforts are failures in the long run, and that surgery is one of the only effective options.
I realize now how lucky I was. I expected my PCP to oppose my surgery, and wasn't sure how the psych doc would respond. Both were very supportive.
The comments above are correct, smile, and think quietly to yourself, (I hope you have a nice day, a**hole) then forget about it and move on. Its how I handle road rage as well.

OK, not sure where my half reply went......
I know of two surgeons in your area, only one does DS. One I like, one not so much. However, neither is up on nutrition. Sorry.
However, this dietitian you saw clearly has no people skills and no concept of post-op nutrition. Some of us do NOT die from WLS! I imagine that'd be a shock to her.

P.S. My year + long absence has NOTHING to do with my WLS, or my type of WLS. See my profile.
I'm going to Dr. Srikanth...is he OK? Have you heard something? He seems like he's well qualified for the job. I've read his reviews on this board too and they're all positive. I drive over to Federal Way and Kirkland for my appointments. Am I wrong?
There is a Dr. here in the Tri-Cities that I wouldn't send my worst enemy to. He's known as a butcher and has experimented with his own surgeries on people. I know many whose lives have been forever changed for the worse because of him.

Yes. Doris Kelly. She's the only dietitian listed in my providers. I didn't want to pay for an out of network dietitian. I didn't really want to go to any, but the insurance wasn't too clear about it. Dr. Srikanth is already providing me with a supervised diet and exercise program. I just wanted to err on the side of caution. I don't want to give the insurance company any reason to deny me.
Dr S and I don't see eye to eye on some of the nutritional things, but he trained partially under my original surgeon, so he got some nutritional background there. He was already an established surgeon in his own right, but did nothing but WLS for about 5 yrs then. He also does a fabulous TT. Make no mistake. If he tucks your tummy, you will NEVER see it again. No tune ups.
We had to have a psych eval back in the day, but the docs never even looked at them. Dr Fox' thinking was this is a physical disease, not a mental one. Glad he didn't, cuz ours both said we were marginal candidates, but would not participate in support groups! LOL
