Anyone else have to do a liquid diet for the first month after surgery?

That's what I get to do.  Anyone else have this?  I'm also only projected to be in the hospital for one day after the surgery.  I said to my surgeon, "other people are in for at least two nights." He told me,"that's their problem, you'll be out in one."

Thoughts?

Oh, and totally random but I need to get it out.  I freaking hate my mother.  Just ignore this part.

One night in the hospital after a DS?  That is insane.

And no,  I never heard of anybody having to do only liquids for a month - why???

Who is this surgeon??

Dr. Srikanth.  He's very good from what I've found.  He says I won't need to stay more than that, but I'm really worried that I won't be ready to go home and I'll be ushered out the door.

He wants me on liquids for a month to properly heal the staples, that what he told me.  He said I won't be hungry anyway, so it won't matter.  I don't know about that!

One night is a bit extreme... My surgeon didn't let me leave until I was passing gas for a good 12 hours straight, which equaled to 4 days.  Also, I was eating mushie's in the hospital when I had my VSG done - I came home eating mushies, not liquids.  Very strange...

Dr. Sudan at Duke has his DS patients do 3 weeks liquid post op. The third week was brutal. He won't let you go home until you pass gas which for most is 3-4 nights in the hospital.

My surgeon also has the rule of liquids only for 1 month postop. I can't honestly say that I followed that plan to a T though  I spent 2 nights in the hospital which is the norm for him unless there are complications.

We have the same doctor.  Did you feel like you were ready to leave after the one night?
