Opinions on Bioavailability of Powdered Omega-3's

I'm searching for a product that will raise my good, HDL, cholesterol in the form of omega-3's and specifically, GLA, EPA, & DHA.  I have recently found out that these fatty acids help inhibit the inflammatory response in the body, which I have an issue with.

I found a dry formulation of omega-3's from a company in England that I'm considering ordering.  I'm going to put a link in for the product info, but also copy & paste the actual formulation of the manufacturing process.  You mix it with water.  It's recommended to be taken with food, but I would think it would be best absorbed alone (opinions!).  What do people this of this process in terms of our ability to absorb these fatty acids?

The DriCelle process allows large doses of nutritional oils to be taken in a palatable powder form with enhanced absorption and bio-availability. Omega-Plex provides a source of both Omega3 and Omega6 fatty acids (as fish, linseed and borage oils).

Micellised Fatty Acid Powder

*1 *1 DriCelle is a unique process that locks microscopically small droplets of essential fatty acids into a "micelle", coated first with natural oil of lemon and then with a dry oligosaccharide powder. The DriCelle process provides the means by which large doses of essential nutritional oils can be taken in a palatable form with enhanced absorption and bioavailability.

*2 Micellisation is the dispersion of micellised fat soluble nutrients to microscopic particles. In this finely dispersed form, fats and oils are more readily absorbed and soluble in water.

Lisey, I haven't started these yet, but I think there is a product called Vectomega that we are suppose to absorb.....???

I don't know about the bioavailability, but the first ingredient being fructose doesn't make me too happy.  Fructose doesn't make the body respond with insulin the same way glucose does, but has been linked to causing disfavorable lipid profiles...like high triglycerides.  Kind of ironic that it'd be in this product, yeah?  lol

I would try to track down the nutrition facts before purchasing this product.  With fructose as the first ingredient and do sugar substitutes listed means it's sweetened with sugar...so the carb count might make you croak when you open the box!

I have also heard of the vectomega but haven't yet looked into it too deeply.

I personally like the coromega, and sometimes I'll take it with a supplemented digestive enzyme for good measure...

Good luck with the inflammation.  Exercise can help the HDL, if you're able to do that.

I use the Vectomega also.  I sent them an email and they felt that I would absorb it better and gave some scientific info that I didn't understand.  The product was suggested to me by the PA at my surgeon's office.  I also take a few regular fish oil tablets a day hoping that some of it will be absorbed.  I do it mostly for my skin so I'm not sure if it's working or not.

Cheers,
Cathy

I use Vectomega (started in March 2011), exercise (started in January 2011) & red wine in moderation (a glass a week, started in April 2011).  So, obviously, I can't say it's JUST the Vectomega, but, I'll chalk some of the increase up to it.  My HDL #'s and dates-

8/2/10- 35
11/9/10- 40
02/9/11- 48
05/26/11- 55

So, it's slowly going up.  I'm pleased with where it is now.  It's much higher than the recommended >40 for my age, and considering the fat malabsorption, it works for me.

Thanks, it's nice to see the numbers.  I think I'm debating right now b/w coromega, vectomega, & powdered Chia seeds.  I need to check each of them out in detail before I decide.

Lisey, I second the recommendation to consider the Vectomega.  I started taking it about three months prior to surgery.  My last set of labs showed that my total cholesterol is 117.  My HDL is 67.  I don't exercise (I know I should, but I don't - much) or drink red wine.  All I've done is take one vectomega per day for the last couple of years.
