Too Funny! I got "the Look" from my doctor today.
I've been having a severe, non-productive cough for about a month, so I decided it was time to get it checked out by my ENT (whom I haven't seen in a long time). After he numbed up my nose and stuck the probe/camera up (down?) it, he found what he thinks is the problem. According to him, it isn't the post-nasal drip I thought it was, it's actually acid reflux!
That was a big surprise, because I don't have heartburn. So he's prescribing some Protonix that I'll take for 6 weeks to see if I get any improvement. So, I get the usual advice...raise head of bed, no eating/drinking 2.5 hours before bedtime, and the really big one....lose weight.
So that's when I told him that hopefully by late Aug-early Sept. I'll be getting the DS, and I explained that while weight loss would be a welcome bonus, I really wanted this particular surgery to put my diabetes into remission. That's when I got "The Look."
It was the look of disbelief that diabetes could be put into remission. Everyone (other than the people on this website) does not believe that diabetes can be "cured" by remission or otherwise. I'm tired of "The Look". I so want to get this surgery so I can get healthier, and give them the "I told you so" look

ahhhh, yes I know what you mean, that is also the case with well respected endocrinologists, that look at you like-there is no such think that can do that with diabetes, oh well, stinks when no one knows what the ds is and those that know look at you like you are crazy for getting it, like lap band drs......you do what is best for you, first fix your cold.....
Wish the DS was a 100% cure for diabetes! I am one of the very few who did not lose their diabetes after the DS. I am 1 year out, down 130 lbs. with only 20-25 more lbs. to go and I am still taking both oral meds and insulin. My insulin usage is much lower than pre-ds, but I am still an insulin dependent diabetic.
Hope the DS works for you!

Can you tell us how long you were an insulin-dependent diabetic? My understanding is that the DS is a cure for type 2 diabetes IF the patient has any insulin reserves - in other words, has not been a diabetic so long that the insulin-producing cells of the pancreas have all diet of (literally) exhaustion due to insulin-insensitivity, and thus increased demand for insulin production.
In other words, if you are a type 2 diabetic long enough, you become a type 1 diabetic, and of course the DS can't fix that.
There are people somewhat in the middle too - diabetic long enough to kill too many (but not all) of the insulin-producing cells to become insulin-free, but still, better than before, because the insulin sensitivity has been improved.
