A Question about different proteins

Okay, so just came back from a 2 week vacation, where i consumed too many carbs (only lost one pound).  I'm trying to get back on track.  I went to The vitamin Shoppe to get the "Champion Protein Powder" as many of you have said it is the best.  I asked the guy there, what protein is bought the most. He told me that women seemed to like the ISOPURE  the best.  I bought one of every flavor and really liked the one I tried, better than the "creamy / shakey" drinks.  Is this still an acceptable form of protein?  I figure if I rotate some days drinking the shakes and some days drinking the Isopure, maybe I won't get quite so disgusted consuming liquid protein.

Is Protein-Protein?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ginger

The Isopure products are generally mostly if not entirely whey protein isolate, so they are a decent source of protein. Their clear ready to drink beverage is also isolate, as is their RTD smoothie.

Now a silly question: Why are you not EATING your protein? Can you not consume 100 grams of protein daily in food?

First, it is not a silly question.  I do try to eat as much protein as I can, however, I'm less than three months out and still have quite a bit of restriction and eating breakfast first thing in the morning has never been easy. I feel like if i can just jump start my protein first thing in the morning It can only help right?  I usually try to drink a protein coffee in the morning but am getting tired of the same old thing everyday.  If I feel like i didn't get enough protein throughout the rest of the day, I'll add another protein shake later in the day.  I'm really just looking for variety.

Try the cake shake recipe.  I have been loving getting my protein in since I found that.

There is a thread about it that was started today.

Edited to add:  I get a LOT of protein by food.  Well over 100 grams a day.  But when I stopped doing protein powder my protein labs slipped a bit and I gained weight.  For me, the protein powder makes me FEEL better, keeps my labs a bit higher and helps me keep my weight stable or even loose a pound or two.  YMMV.

Nice post Jenny!  I'd never seen that before.  Very helpful.

To the OP....I also jumpstart my morning with a shake or even a double shake!  The shake I use has 32g of isolate in it so its nice knowing I've got 64g knocked out first thing in the morning.  There are some days that I make myself a big ole omelette (I'm 7 mos out!) but when I'm in more of a hurry during the week, its usually a shake.

I'm over 2 yrs out and still drink at least one protein shake a day on weekdays.  My reasoning is very similar to yours.  I am not ready for a real breakfast when I first wake up.  This gets me started on the right foot and keeps me well over 100 grams.  I really don't like tracking numbers and this just gives me added reassurance.

If I'm having a not hungry day, I'll add a second shake in the evening.

When I'm looking at protein drinks / powders:

- I look to see how much protein per serving (derived from whey isolate, a bit of casseine sp? seems to work okay for me too)
- I make sure it doesn't have much sugar / carbs (5 grams or less)
- Price.  I often buy what's on sale.

I think protein shakes can be bad if one uses them as a crutch to get protein in so they'll have room for junk.  That's why I stick to one a day usually on weekdays.  I usually don't drink them on weekends - I want to have to work a bit harder to get my protein in so that I don't have room for the carby crap that seems to appear on the weekends.

I need to lose about 2 more pounds for a normal BMI .  I still seem to be slowly losing at over 2 yrs out...so may get there yet.

I find if I start my day with a double scoop of protein, I feel better thru the day.
