I can't help you with the loss but the cover-up...maybe. I had a significant loss (about 90%). Most from the top and crown, but was VERY thin everywhere.
I use a hair piece from Paula Young. It covers just the top and crown and thankfully the color I ordered was EXACTLY the same as my shade. It blends so well that people that I do tell are shocked that it is not my hair.
It was only about $40 and so well worth it and attaches with 2 clips that are attached to the piece.
