Ok... I have a concern here.. I Know the one I NEED to ask is my surgeon and I will, but after reading a thread here I have a question. 7 to 10 years ago I was in the hospital for an unknown illness... then. they had to do a upper and lower GI and wanted me to drink this golightly "Stuff" They brought me a HUGE glass of ICE and 3 liters of this "Stuff" I tried.... and I mean I tried REALLY HARD TO DRINK THAT "CRAP" I couldn't do it.... it was like someone had dumped salt into soapy dish water. I NEVER thought I would ask for let alone BEG FOR AN ENEMIA, but that is EXACTLY WHAT I DID after trying to drink that "Stuff" I called the nurse into my room and I said.. Look.. I know this is gona sound crazy.... BUT PLEASE call the Doc and see if he will oder an enemia for me... I don't care how many I have to have... it has GOT TO BE BETTER THAN THIS .... I got to tell ya... I would MUCH RATHER go the ENEMIA route..... So... am I off my rocker... is there anyone else out there that would rather have the Corn Row Commander work it's MOJO than try to drink that "Stuff" .... Remember... Save a horse... Ride a cowboy... E

I've never had an enema, nor any Go-lytely. For my bowel prep before surgery, I drank 8 ounces of magnesium citrate. I've seen a lot of people post about how yucky it is, but *I* didn't think it tasted bad at all. And having been on clear liquids for about 24 hours at that point, it didn't really 'hurt' me much on the other end, either. (*grin*)

Yeah, whoever named that GoLytely stuff has a warped sense of humor. I am doing the little bottle of phospho-soda. Still bad, but it's over quickly. An enema doesn't clean out the entire bowel, just the last part of it.

When I had one of my invasive procedures a few years ago, I had to do the GoLytely AND two enemas!! I agree, hands down, enemas are preferable. I have yet to keep down more than 2 quarts of the crap. I barfed it up. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being GoLytely, the MagCitrate is a 7, mostly based on volume -- you can hold your nose and get each dose down in a few swigs. Gagged, but kept it down. Of course, after I take the third dose of extra strength antibiotics, every time, I barf all that up too. Any wonder why I KNEW I couldn't handle an RNY??

Couple of years ago I had a colonoscopy and had to drink 2 little 16 oz bottles of some clear, lemony-lime bubbly stuff. Hmmm, I thought, this is not so bad. Oh, man, was I wrong. The next 8-10 hours were spent in the bathroom, being cleaned out. I think I'd rather take 2 or 3 enemas rather than one of those bottles of stuff. Oh, BTW, my surgeon doesn't have his pre-ops do a bowel cleanse at all. The only thing I had to do was a 12 hour fast before surgery. I think he told me that after surgery it helps "wake up" our bowels and helps us have that first bowel movement quicker if there's something in the gut already. -joanne s

When I had my colonoscopy I chose to take some pills called Visocol instead of drinking anything. They are prescription, and you have to take 40 of them in one day (I think it was 8 at a time, 5 times day). But believe me, unless you have a thing about taking pills, if your doctor gives you this as an option, I'd jump at it!

Go_lightly is a misnomer if there ever was one...I had it coming out of both ends!! Too much information, but I was cleaned out. Jo

I did not have to do any prep for my surgery just no eating after 5:00 P.M. Thank God! I would rather starve than have go lightly. Go lightly sounds more like go harshly. Cindy
