Pros/Cons the DS vs. Distal RNY?
thanks for the apology. i'm glad you aren't mean and willing to tell everyone. i can't believe well yes i can believe how the insurance comanpies are screwing people.
i'm glad you guys were here for me. i have not been to the rny board because i was so caught up in getting to know the ds so fast, but i thought when i made my decision i'd go there and post.
i don't want to sound like i'm saying DS is the only way. however, i really really hate the idea of someone going thru what i did. i thought i'd found something great and here i am back for more surgery. i didn't have a choice in 99, they do.
why are rny'ers saying that you'll have loose bm's and bad breath and other such nonsense. i would think this was about making a good choice.
oh, well. i'll leave them alone and continue getting info. thanks again and blessings,
ronnie

I didn't BASH anyone.... I didn't say anything wrong to anyone. YOU made attacks on the girl who wrote this post.... I'll tell you what, mermaid IS NOT the only one who has had a helluva year!! You don't know me or my situation, so back off before you start something you know nothing about. YOU DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT TO TELL PEOPLE THAT THEY CANNOT POST TO THE DS BOARD!!! So don't tell me to leave. You aren't anybody!! Enough is enough!!!!!!!
The real question that has to be answered before deciding on a revision is WHY are you regaining? Is your stoma too large? have you stretched your pouch? Is it that it's too easy for you to overeat? Or are you eating exactly what you were as when you were losing and the malabsorption is no longer working properly?
If it's capacity/restriction that's the issue, a possibility is to get a lap-band installed at the stoma to be able to adjust it smaller again and help prevent overeating...
If it's strictly a malabsorption issue, then yea, either having more intestine bypassed or converting to DS is more likely the right route. However, how "easy" one is over the other will depend on whether or not your stomach was transsected and you surgeon could go into more detail about that aspect of it.
But first you have to determine where the problem is before having anything done...

i appreciate the info and advice. i have regained because i was sick and couldn't work out as i had been and pouch is stretched. my surgeon does not not want to go in and redo the pouch but thinks a revison to DS will work better for me.
thanks nancy for the information. this was the type of response i was looking for.
yeah... i really have that much time on my hands to just sit and try and make trouble. goodness, i am being sarcarstic here.
i really needed info. i didn't even know there was such a rivalry between ds/rny. i didn't know they are monitoring this board...goodness, i just wanted some information
could we please kill this. i got a lot of great information which i really appreciate. i needed to know more than just "i love my ds"... i needed facts and real life experiences. some great people have given it to me and i've found that DS is a much better idea than a distal RNY and now I understand why.
before i get hung and or shot can we please leave it i'm in too much pain to keep fussing.
thanks.
