I remember how exciting and scared I was at a week before. I couldn't concentrate at all. I know everyone at work was sick of me. I am soooo excited for you!

I had an easy preop diet. I had a long wait for surgery so that I could have it during Christmas break and not take extra time off from work. I did the last meal several times before the two week preop. Once I started it I was good but I ate lots of nuts and actually gained one pound. The surgeon told me my liver was huge but she didn't think it was from diet and did a biopsy. I have had high enzymes since 18 and I was at a normal weight then. I have heard several people cheat and several don't even have a preop diet until the day before. It sounds like you are trying and you should be fine.

I had a few minor problems the first week but now I feel like a whole new person. I have not lost as much as others but I wouldn't change what I did for anything. Make sure you have something for after for constipation. The pain meds tend to make some constipated and I still have to take something. There are some really good gummy fibers that I take daily along with a probiotic. The other thing that was helpful at the hospital and home was gas-x strips. I think I had four or five a day the first week.

My home email is [email protected] if you need anything at all. Let me know as soon as you can how the surgery goes. I will be thinking of you.

Lisa,
Sorry you having a headache. That totally sucks.....I don't think a little caffeine will hurt you at all -- and it supressed the headache all the better -- are you drinking your water!!!!!  Drink, drink, drink.
Yea, I saw the recipes too; that was a nice bonus....
I just got my subliminal b12, liquid multi and the calcium citrate -- yea, the liquid form makes us spend more money -- not fun huh!
When do you get to see  your kids?  I know that must be so rough!  What is your visitation schedule like?
Get that protein shot if you can -- its an instant full feeling I know you will like.
Out the door on the way to egg hunt...
Talk to you late today,
Feel better :o)

Hey Kelley! I am doing well today. Did you get that giant book from the hospital? I really like that it has recipes and so much other helpful information in it. My preop diet is going ok, except that I am getting terrible headaches, and all I can take is Tylenol! Bleh! Tylenol isn't helping at all. So, last night, I did have half of a diet dr. pepper. Instantly, my headache was gone! As far as being lonely, we can take walks together and whine together if you want. We'll be in the same general area I am sure. I'm sorry you're having so much trouble finding a job. I know that is tough.

I hadn't even thought about getting my vitamin in liquid form. Ugh...more money! However, it's also an option to blend them in with the protein shakes. I don't know if that will make them even more tasty or not! lol

I hope you have a great time with the kids today. I miss mine terribly. :( It sounds though that you are doing well on the diet! I know it's hard. I am so hungry right now as well. Just remember that it will all be worth it in a few months! YAY!

Talk soon!

Lisa

Hey Lisa,How are you doing today?!  Congrats on completing the hospital stuff.....!  Pretty easy stuff and the staff there seem to be very nice.  Sorry to hear that getting a vein was not as easy as it should have been -- The wrist insertion must not have felt very good.  The lady that did me, was awesome -- I didn't even feel the *****!How are you managing on the preop diet?I have 2 girlfriend in the area since moving here 7 years ago -- job related transfer. Then I got married a year later and my life became my husbands and his family became my family -- I don't have any family here.  I am hoping both come up and see me -- but they have small children, so I don't want to get my hopes up.  I hope they come though -- I sure will be lonely.Yea, we had a little bit of hail -- but nothing like what we had a week agao -- I think Coppell (where I am) got a light dose of it this time around.OM, you have 6 weeks off -- I know that you are loving that!!!!  I have been a stay at home mom for the past 6 years. When I was pregnant with my first I stopped working.....And now am looking for a good JOB. But that has been hard. For the time being, I am looking - but also enjoying the time with my little one's.  As part of my settlement, my ex is paying some alimony for 3 years, so while its a small amount it does afford me the chance to be at home stil.  I am the one who takes the kids to school -- 8 and 2:30 and they go to private school - so there is no buses.  I am not going to sit around though - I would be fool not work now while i can - because his small $2k alimony a month is not making all ends meet -- I have sent my resume out a million places and no one is picking up on me.  I guess having not worked in so long -- that is the issue -- I have a bachelors and a MBA as well.  You are so fortunate to be able to take off for 6 weeks, that will give you lots of time to recoup.Glad to see that you think Forest Medical is cheapeast -- because when they told me this week just what the hospital costs were, I almost fell out of my chair.  I am self paying.  The hospital stay is worse than the surgery itself.I was just reading the pamphlet from forest medical -- I am sure you got one yesterday. I did not realize that you can't take vitamins post op -- everthing has to be in liquid form.  Yikes, I did not prepare for that yet.......looks like I better get busy.  I got a new multiple the other day and its capulses.  And I see you can never take ibuprofen and aspirin again - because that could damage things.  A few life changing things will be something to have to remember going forward.  sells some things -- but I wonder how expensive they are~!  Have you gotten all that you will need in liquid form? -- I am going to surfing now online.  My 5 year old has a easter party at school today -- and I am in charge of desserts and setting out eggs for the hunt....Praying fo no rain.  So, need to get out of here by 11:30......Yesterday my ex and I finally amicably agreed to his possession for summer -- he gets them 3 weeks (non-consecutive); I am going to lose it without my kids.....they are so young and I am so attached.  I have them this weekend --and I can't wait -- EASTER going to be tough without at least one recees peanut butter cup.Ok, so yesterday as the other days I have been getting in my protein -- but snacked a bit on their dinner.  Gosh I felt so guilty -- but I am missing carbs.  I got to be disciplined from here on out -- I think the nervousness of it all is making me want to eat......yikes!I know its important to stick to pre-op diet because that determine how fast and easy surgery goes and how well you heal.........I am averaging 50-60 grams of protein a day and doing well for the most part -- but every couple of days, it seems I want something because liquid! urgh!talk to you soon,Kelley

Hi, I'm looking for a pen-pal or friend that is close to my age or had surgery close to my age. I'm 19, and I'm having surgery in about a month. I would like to have someone to talk to who has dealt with some of the issues of having surgery as a young adult.
Thanks,
Michelle

Hey girlie!

Today was SO busy! I went to the hospital for my pre-op stuff. They drew blood, did an EKG, and a chest  X-ray. I also signed all my releases for the surgery. The only vein they could get was on my wrist bone. I know there's a technical term for it, but I don't know it. It still hurts like heck. I'm ready to go. I see my surgeon tomorrow afternoon--rather this afternoon! It's morning! I spent the night at my friends house, watching movies. That storm was something, huh?

Oh my GOSH!!! We are 6 days away! How very exciting! I am so anxious, it isn't even funny! I've waited so long for this day!

I can't believe you don't have someone coming with you! That's just awful!!! :( There's nobody close that will come and support you?

As for me, I am off work for 6 weeks. I am a corporate trainer at a financial planning firm. So, for now, I am at home, and really enjoying the down time! I usually travel about 90 percent of the time, so this down time is sure refreshing! I live in Fort Worth, so its a good drive over, but it is much less expensive over at that hospital. What about you? What do you do?

I can't wait to chat!

Lisa

I am scheduled for surgery a week from today -- and on this preop diet -- its tough -- I am supposed to have been on this a week now -- I do good for a day or two and then cheat a little -- I am not bingeing on anything sugary or anything - just nibbling on kids food.  I am back on the plan tomorrow -- averaging 50-60 grams of protein and no caffeine, low carbs -- do you think I will be okay?

I would be happy to talk with you. I am not expert but have been thinking how nice it would be to have someone to talk to also.

Good luck on your upcoming surgery.
