DENIED !!!

OK, so i got a call today .... United Healthcare denied me saying regardless what the medical necessity is they will not cover it !! I think this is BS !! This is not purely cosmetic.... A doctor is telling me and by the way referred me to have this procedure telling me due to my weight and other medical issues the big one being my PCOS that I will die if i do not get rid of this weight ASAP!!! I have done all my research, sent in all my medical records, read every book out there, gone to every nutritionist meeting... even support groups... Sorry people just venting I'm VERY upset ! Anyone know of a finance company I could try to cover this ?

Try www.obesitylaw.com FAQ's may have some answers for you. Do not know about the finance. It is wrong that some states are mandated and others are not. I have seen many of Florida residents on the boards who have madicade/medicare not sure of the difference get surgery paid by them.

Hi Christine, I am sorry to hear that you have been denied. I know how it feels. The School Board insurance that I have has excluded it totally from our medical insurance. It is not even an option. Christine, I thought about it, but I was lucky enough to have my mom loan me half of the money. We just opened up a bank account together at my bank so I can pay her back on a monthy basis. My insurance didn't deny my request, it just totally excluded it from our medical insurance. It wasn't even an option. It didn't matter because I was going to do anything I could to have the surgery. I almost got a second mortage. I just received something in the mail about financing, I will read it and send you the information tomorrow. Cate

Blue Cross Blue Sheild of Florida is not longer (as of jan 1,2006) covering WLS. Medicare does cover it, and I dont know about Medicaid. Even though Medicaid is a Federal program, each state has their own laws governing what they cover etc. Blue Cross of Alabama will cover it if you work very hard to go through all of the hoops. I am paying ca**** ouches some - but my husband made and gave me the money. I dont understand why insurance companies want to pay for diabetes, heart disease, circulation issues, breathing problems, joint replacements, and all the meds to go with the illnesses for a lifetime rather than pay for the surgery that they could get a discount on like they do every other hospital stay. :-S Good luck.
