My consult with Dr.....what a joke
Well, I was very disappointed today. I went to the doctor for my consult. There is NOOOOO way I am letting that man near me with a 100 foot pole!!!!! I could barely understand him, I do not speak Spanish, and as he was talking to me he was chewing on a fingernail he had ripped off of his finger:-o....then when I asked him how many surgeries he has preformed he acted like I insulted him and he couldn't give me a number he just said a lot.......Then when he left he had his office manager come in and I asked her how many surgeries the doctor preformed and she also just answered a lot. Then I asked her how many had complications and if any died.....well, she threw out the HIPPA regulations and that because of this she couldn't tell me, that is BS because she isn't giving patient info to me she would be giving me statistics. If she was worried about HIPPA she shouldn't of told me that the lady in the next room was also there to talk to the doctor about WLS, Now THAT is a HIPPA violation. After all of this she tells me how having surgery will change me and that a lot of patients leave their husbands because they change etc.......can we just say HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE office!!!! The doctor I went to see was a Dr. XXX XXX.....Let's just say he will NEVER EVER see my face there again. I sure hope I can find another doctor here that accepts Tricare.......
OH Staff Note: Edited to meet the terms of service
Some asked my surgeons' PA about deaths at one of our classes we have to attend and he answered the questions in front of all of us...without hesitation. I was the one that pointed out to the other person before the PA answered that they needed to realize our surgeon usually only operates on the high risk cases so they need to take that into consideration when asking such a question....but then when the PA answered we were all shocked to know only 3 patients had died within 6 months of WLS and 2 were non-WLS...literally like car wreck but the doctor must report them as deaths. And the other was pnemoina after a readmit. But no one has died on the table or while still in the hospital after surgery.
Any surgeon, of any worth, should be willing to talk to your about all the risks and his surgical statistics. If he/she isn't willing to be forthcoming, then just leave and don't look back.
A good surgeon is going to be honest and forthcoming. Good ones will even tell you that they can't or won't do the surgery for you. A good surgeon knows when things are beyond their capability or skills. REALLY good ones will refer you to a colleague or tell you to consider going to a large teaching hospital where the latest technologies and techniques are being , taught, honed and practiced.
Thank you all....yes I agree I need to be confident in the doctor before he comes any where near me. I am in the Ft. Lauderdale area so going to Pensacola is out of the question. There are a TON of bariatric surgeons here and quite a few are supposed to be the best surgeons around, BUT they do NOT accept Tricare. I am still on the search for one that will. I am getting frustrated....
