Need info regarding a psych eval tomorrow...nervous!!!
My psych eval consisted of an interview, talking about my past & food issues & diets I've tried, as well as my life in general. We also discussed my expectations of what the wls would or could do for me. I also had to take a multiple choice quiz - no big deal. The test is looking for personality problems that would show that you might be someone who would not or could not follow the life-long restrictions that wls requires.
As for how to behave during the interview - just be yourself & tell the truth. If you have psychologicial problems that would prevent you from following the wls restrictions you risk your health & life by lying just to get approved. And even if you do have some kind of problem, they are often issues that can be treated (things like depression) that won't absolutely prevent you from having the surgery, just might delay it a bit.
Good luck with your eval and don't worry!

I can tell you how NOT to act...
Don't tell them you see the guy sitting on their sholders... or that you hear voices telling you to eat a WHOLE tub of Ben n Jerrys...
Don't start doing the chicken dance every time the shrink says the word "feel"
Don't rearrange his bookshelf in accordance to height and title
Don't walk around the couch 3 times before you sit in it
and
Don't tell your invisible friend to be quite about wanting to go to the bathroom.. Tell him to go before you get there so that he doesn't bother you!!!
ok.. I hope you got a good laugh.. I'm giggling..
Anyways... as most people can tell you.. I stressed WAY too much about the shrink eval. I had nightmares about not getting approved because I was nuts.... or they would think I was. When I went in there, he asked me a "profile" of questions.. about 60 or so..
The only one I can remember was .. Do you often hear or see things that others have problems with...
I looked him blank in the face for like a minutes... I had no idea what he meant.. if I had like bionic hearing.. or if I had 20/20 vision.. I was like.. why does he need to know that...
So I asked him.. what in the world do you mean? He's like.. do you see angels.. or hear voices.. I was like.. OOHHHHH.. NO!
HEHE. You'll do fine!

My psych was NO big deal the worst thing was it lasted over 3 hrs. I don't mean 3 hrs. including wait time I mean 3 hrs. testing time.
It was unbelievable. I had to write a essay, look at ink blots, take all these memory tests and much more! It was nothing to worry about just a waste of time really and a pain in the booty. I did enjoy the very end speaking with the dr. she was very nice and her sister had the surgery so she was knowledgeable too!

I actually enjoyed my psych eval... hmm... I think I may need help
Seriously, he sent all the testing to me via mail prior to my appointment so I could do it at my liesure so I didnt feel rushed to get it done while I sat in the office. Then when I got there early (like 30-45 minutes early I wasnt sure about the drive to get there), I waited a bit but we got started earlier the scheduled which was fine with me.
He told me that he'd be writing so not to get to worried about that, he was still listening. We went over my tests and he joked that he'd have to be harder on me since I practice martial arts (he did too and he said he could tell because I kept refering to him as Sir).
He was pleased with the amount of research I had actually done and remembered when he talked with me. He gave me some pointers that he had accumulated over the last few years while helping overweight patients get through their problems. I keep his words fresh in my mind almost daily, from the water container going with me all of the time to the expectations of post-op.
I will follow up with him again once I'm post-op, and though seeing him is out of pocket it will only be 1/2 of what I paid the first time.
