Whew! Close call
I am on day 7 of my dr's 2 week liquid pre-op diet. In the meanwhile my primary didn't like some of my lab results when she gave my surgeon clearance and I had to see a hematologist. She made the appt for me. When I called their office to give them some required info they answered the phone "Florida Cancer Center". I was stunned. I got so nervous because I had a brother that died of leukemia and my dad died from lymphoma. I saw the hematologist *****peated the labs and they were ALL within normal limits. WHEW!!!. Better safe than sorry but my primary really jumped the gun with the specialist. I am greatful that the results were positive and now look forward to Aug 24. The good news is I am losing weight on this preop diet. My wedding ring is slipping off!
Looking forward to being fabat50-----Netta
Netta,
I'm sorry the doc gave you the heebie jeebies by calling in the big guns so quickly but you're right, better to be safe than sorry. I'm glad all your labs came back good so you don't have to postpone your surgery. Congrats on the pre-op weight loss - you're already on the right road! Good luck on your journey!!

It is most common for a hematologist to work out of a cancer center. I have to see mine regularly at the Oncology Center here in NY.
Hemotologist work closely with cancer patients so many do work out of that type of center. Freaked me out a bit too. I have a history of DVT & had a pulminary embolism after my RNY surgery so I have to keep my blood work monitered closely.
Good luck and congratulations on the weight loss so far.
