Just one of those questions my mind has come up with in these final days before surgery. Was it painful....could you feel it reach your pouch? Betty

It was a little scary to eat and drink at first. I didn't "feel" anything going in my pouch. It just felt normal. I was on mushy foods for 6 weeks so everything just slid down! It wasn't painful at all.

Thanks Kellie. I would think it would be similar to the anxious feeling you get when you first bear weight on a broken leg after the cast has been taken off....afraid it is going to hurt. It is good to know you didn't find it painful though. Betty

You are so dry after surgery, that by the time you do your swallow test you will drink ANYTHING!! Same with food. I was happy to try it. I stayed on liquids, after I was stuck on nothing by mouth due to complications - NOP seemed like forever!!. The liquids, for me, was sickening. They were so sweet I couldn't even eat the jello and the broth was so salty. My taste buds were really messed up. So, when the hospital gave me chicken salad I was so relieved not to have anything sweat I just ate and followed my rules for eating and everything was fine. Dana P

Wow Betty just a few more days!! Whoo hoo- so exciting!!!!!!!!!!!! After they wheeled me back up from the swallow/xray tests, I got into the chair and the kitchen gal was walking in with a tray. I promptly handed my husband the cup of regular jello, and he got me sugar-free.... So just remember to look at what you are about to eat!! Also, I was VERY leary of the apple juice- but after gentle reassurance from my sweet nurse Kelli, I sipped. No it doesn't hurt. Take tiny bites and smu**** up in your mouth. Take tiny sips and relax. XOXO Lisa

It was scary, but it didn't hurt me.

I had my first meal after surgery Friday. I was not scared, but rather excited because of how dry and sore my throat was. Nothing scared me more then the xray to check for leaks. The stuff I drank was gross and all of the positions they required me to get into sucked.

You will do fine if you follow all the eating & drinking rules. Take it slooooooow. I am 2 months post op and I still only wan****er to drink. I have tried other liquids (especially when I was on the liquid diet) but the WLS does somehow effect your taste buds. Liquids to me either taste too sweet or too salty. Water seems to be the only liquid that taste good and quinches thirst. For the first week or so, you will have to force yourself to eat or drink anything. You won't be doing it because you are hungry believe me. Good luck with your surgery and please keep us posted throughout your recovery process. Bec
