hello my name is wanda i'm 34 i stand 5'9" and weigh a little over 400 pounds. I really need help financially in getting this surgery. my doctors say i am a perfect canidate for this surgery. i have mild type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, osteoarthritis in my left leg, and i suffer from depression (it's because of the weight). i don't have insurance. I've applied at the vocational rehab and they say i'm emotionally unstable (my reason is that i'm obese) so they won't help me with the surgery. i don't have money for this surgery. the reason i want this surgery is because i want to do it for my self i used to be very active person and i can't move around anymore. i want to be here for my children, i have 6 beautiful children i want to be here for them i want to be there when they graduate and when they get married and even when they have children of there own. so if any one has any sugesstion please let me know. i have tried every thing in the book to lose weight. but i'm at a point where it's hard for me to move around.

I could not afford the sugery as well. I have medicaid. Medipass gave me no problems. I went to the doctor 1 time and told her what I wanted and she agreed. I did'nt find out she was a nurse pra****il I needed a signature at the hospital from the doctor over her. Keep trying and pressing. A lot of things I had to push to get things done faster. I met someone who was sick at the hospital Memorial Reginal in Hollywood Fl.. They gave her insurance while their called Memorial PPo. She has to pay only $2000 for the whole surgery. I think she pays 20%. It all depends on you and how bad you want it. It may not come easy. I called several docs at first and could'nt find a surgeon. After hard work it happened within 3 months. Good Luck and God bless.

Rina, Did you ever call Jackson in Miami to ask them about accepting Medicaid for WLS? I got denied for my revision but I have Medicaid as a secondary and when I told my surgeons office that they said Jackson isn't letting them take Mediciad for WLS...now the last time I checked they are a public hospital and I thought they had to accept Medicaid for all services. But I also know they are still waiting on full accrediation as a Center of Excellence because they only have 1 surgeon or something. Just wondering... Sarah

My answer might not be what you're looking for, but surgery just isn't for everyone. There is a high amount of compliance that's necessary to be successful in the long-term and if you are unstable, then you might not be a good surgical candidate. That doesn't make you a bad person, though!!! Have you thought about going on the post-op eating plan and see how you do?? IF you can show compliance to the post-op diet and lose some weight, things might change for you. I would also get under the care of a physician not only for the diet, but also to address the emotional problems. You may not have insurance, but you want to take care of your health!

Wanda- I am sorry getting the surgery is difficult for you. Some people really have to work hard to get ready for the surgery, both physically and mentally. Perhaps if you started working with a counselor or therapist you could demonstrate to Voc Rehab just how serious you are about the surgery. After working with a therapist for a while you will be able to show them that you have dealt with your issues and that you are ready to move forward. Red
