Another question and thanks
Thanks to all who has given me answers because I am getting ready but still scared. I am going to get a body pillow because I have heard it helps. I am dreaming every day of my new life and how I will look. I just hate the fear of surgery!!! I have another question. After surgery how do you drink fluids properly? When did anyone have their first drink? I have read my instructions and the 1oz of fluid every five minutes seems rough. What about if you are out in the heat and you get really thirsty? I know I probably have some silly questions but they keep popping up.
Thanks to all,
Robin
Hi Robin,
Everyone is a little different, so I can only say how my surgery went. I had Lap. I went to sleep and woke up and felt a little weak. I did not need one pain killer. I had no pain at all. I had one incision that needed attention but i really felt nothing.
You should bring lip ointment of some kind. Your lips will be very dry. They will let you drink water soon enough. By the end of the day I could sip it all I needed, you just can never guzzle it. The thing that drives me the most crazy is that evry doctor gives his/ her patient different views on what to eat and drink after surgery. It will all be over soon enough. Faster than you will believe. Good luck

Honestly, I did have a difficult time getting in all the fluid for the first few weeks. That is when I turned to sugar free popsicles and sugar free jello. They kept me from getting dehydrated until I could drink more. It gets hot in So. Florida and even with all my exercise I am not tempted to gulp my fluids. The adjustment is easier than I thought. I feared not being able to drink with my meal -- but that's not too bad either. Believe me, it's well worth it!
Remember - there is no such thing as a silly question!
Robin, all surgeons are a little different, mine started me, 1 ounce every 15 minutes the day of surgery, 2 ounces every 15 minutes the day after surgery, and as much as I could drink without feeling full second day after surgery. After that you just keep a bottle of water or crystal lite, or whatever with you at all times, and just sip all day long. I am 4 months post, and can drink a little more now, but just rememebr to sip, sip, sip, all day long.
