Question re: post-op
Hello everyone. I am now 17 days post op and don't know if i should still be so sore, I had it laproscopic. I can't get an appt for the doctors until the end of this month. I got discharged during the hurricane by a nurse so I wasn't able to ask alot of questions like, how long should I be wearing the binder? Should I make an appt to see my reg. doctor?
I know I am also a little discouraged because I don't have a way to weigh myself so I don't feel like I have lost any weight even though I am barely eating 300 calories a day. Any one have any answers? I would be so appreciative.

Ashley, when you say sore, you mean "ache" as opposed to "pain"? I had lap RNY and my stomach muscles were sore for some time, plus I had some discomfort around the pouch area for even longer. My surgeon said both were normal. If you are barely eating 300 K/day you will certainly be surprised when you step on the scale. What are you eating? ....and I certainly hope you are getting in the liquids and some protein.
Good luck and hang in...........

Ashley, it sounds like you're doing ok to me. Don't worry about stepping on the scale, because it will just be a big surprise when you get to the doctor's office. Your stomach will be swollen for a while, so even though you're losing, your clothes won't feel a bit different, at least mine don't as yet.

Hi, per Dr Murr, I was to see my pcp once I was released from hospital. As for binder, I stopped wearing when my tummy felt like I could do without. You will have pain off and on for couple of months. Most of it will be from the healing inside. Mostly a pull feeling.
Make sure you get the protein and water per your instructions from dietitian. She should have given you a packet in the hospital.
I remember that I went back to work at three weeks (21 days post op) and that I had a difficult time, being very achey and sore with a lot of discomfort also from my waistbands. So, at 17 days, you should stiull expect some achiness and soreness. But at about four weeks, which would be what, 28 days, things seemed a lot different. That fourth week was much easier for me. If things get too sore, my surgeon let me take liquid Tylenol, but not the children's liquid Tylenol. That is only 80 mGs per teaspoon, and you'd have to take 12 teaspoons to get the relief of two Tylenol tablets. And that would FILL our pouch! LOL! Either crush two regular Tylenol (It takes "IK!") or buy the ADULT liquid Tylenol that provides 500 mG per teaspoon.
He didn't give me a binder. Hmmm. . . .
Anyway, good luck. Sounds like you're doing Ok. As long as you mean achy and sore, maybe a "pulling" twinge or two from inside, and not stabbing, horrible pain.
