G-tube
Hi Beverly,
I did have a G-tube, I had mine in for 6 weeks but I think most doctors remove it at 4 weeks. I was having trouble at the time it was going to be removed so my doctor made me keep it just in case he had to remove my gallbladder.
But all in all it was not to bad. In the first 3 weeks I used it to get in some extra water and also used it for liquid protein because I was not getting in enough. I would have to say the last week of having it in the hose was rubbing my skin and I had a burning feeling, but not to bad.
I think if you keep an open mind about it you'll be ok. I found it to be very helpful.

I had the G-tube for 2 weeks after surgery. I was glad to get it out. Once it was removed, I did not need anymore pain pills. I felt the muscles were trying to attach to the tube and it bothered me to move around and sleep on my side and stomach.
It was not offensive, just uncomfortable. It can be used to help with medications and liquids after surgery. It is attached to your lower stomach and can be used to feed should you have problems after surgery.
Beverly,
I also had Dr. Kim as my surgeon.
I loved my G-Tube. I was sure to get enough fluids and protein while the G-Tube was in although at first I was afraid to use it.
I couldn't sleep on my stomach with the G-tube so that wasn't very good but on the whole it was fine.
Dr. Kim will take it out 10-14 days after your surgery.
Don't be afraid of it! Use it! It can be your best friend when it comes to ensuring your fluid and protein intake.
Good luck,
Rhonda
