P'Cola Dr. opinions...pro & con?
WAHOOOOOO...found out I can have my surgery out of network. Need experience pro's and con's for local surgeons. I'm moving to Pensacola in 1 week and not familiar with reputations of local surgeons. I have been warned there are ones with high loss rates, but patient forum shows patients love him. Any opinions?
Thanks,
Laurie
Hi
I am Laurie P also. I Know several of this surgeons patients. Seems they had more complications than mine but he also does a LOT of the surgery so I guess that is possible. Check it out for yourself. I went to Dr Rodgers in Ft Walton. I am doing great.
Take some time and check it out. Ask around. Check out local Gastro Drs in P cola who may follow up on his complications...
Feel free to e mail me. There is a support group in Ft Walton monthly. There are people there who have had surgery all over the region not only in P cola.
Welcome to the Emerald Coast!

Laurie,
I'm in Tallahassee, about 3 hr east of Pensacola, so I can't tell you anything about docs in the P'cola area. But, I know there is a practice in Panama City that has a good rep (sorry, don't know the doc's name) and I can tell you that Dr. Sieloff in Tallahassee is excellent and so is his office staff! If you don't mind traveling a little bit, come to Tallahassee for one of Dr. Sieloff's informational seminars. They are usually held at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Auditorium the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m.
Good luck finding a surgeon you're comfortable with and confident in!

The only practice in Panama City is with Dr.Wilson at Surgical associates of NW florida..he was my surgeon.. and he did a wonderful job.. I just wish he had a bariatric clinic.. which offered extra support groups.. Don't get me wrong, the hospital offers a once a month support group, Dr.Wilson is wonderful and I have had NO problems with him..but his staff isn't too friendly.. read my profile under how I felt about my surgeon.. that was dated material and was written in at the time prior to surgery..
good luck..
Laurie, I live about 20 minutes NE of P'cola in Pace. Dr. Nye also did my surgery in Sep 02. He came highly recommended and I will pass that recommendation on to you. He is kind, gentle, and seriously involved with his patients. His staff is excellent and his wife Rose is his chief nurse. He has established the Baptist Bariatric Center in P'cola. This unit takes over your aftercare after awhile, they follow you for 5 years. They are great and very picky about following you closely. As far as I know he still only does open. For me that was fine because I wanted the best.
Good luck and welcome to the Emerald Coast!
from what I understand..Dr.Nye is one of the best gastric bypass dr's on this side of florida.
He has a very reputable reputation and has his own Bariatric clinic.. where he see's through your follw up care for life..
I wasn't able to go to him because I wasn't large enough..he only see's people with a bmi over 42 I believe..I sure wish I could have,my surgeon was great but doesn't offer any follow up care after 6 months AND he isn't a bariatric Dr.. Just your typical surgeon who performs bariatric surgery, and has for over 15 years.. but his passion is just being a surgeon..
But Dr.Nye and his staff use Baptist hospital and from what I hear they are the best...
Dr. Nye is and was awesome for WLS.
He's done over 2000 surgeries so far I believe and my personal experience with everything with the surgery *open 02/10/05* was excellent. There is plenty of support and concern and he was willing to take his time and answer any possible questions. I think the Bariatric Center at Baptist Hospital improves as time goes on and even with the possible complications that can come from this surgery, statistics are just statistics, everyone's body is different and cir****tances are different.
The best thing you can do for the surgery is read and study all you can about it and read other's experiences and learn things by trial and error.
Good luck in your decision.
