Tricare and Psych Eval
Tri care sure does cover the psych eval. Call the 800 number and push the button for mental health. They will give you a list of providers and also automatically approve your referral. My psych lady tried to make me pay 100 dollars for her time in writing a letter of neccessity because she said Tri care didn't pay her enough to do this. Okay why is she a Tri care provider if she feels this way...anyway I paid it because I wanted to just be done with it and without even asking Tri care reemburse me promptly. I am so pleased with this carrier. Good luck

I'm not a TriCare insured but I did have to take the MMPI-2 test. There is a sampling of questions from this test being discussed in the Lap-Band forum here:
http://www.obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/surgtype-forums/LapBand/postdetail/157376.html?vc=0
Aside from the questions she listed, this is from my journal of the day I took the test:
I took the MMPI-2 test last Monday (03.01.04) and it wasn't as bad as I thought. Strange questions though. They were all true or false... I'm glad I was born a girl... I hear things other people don't hear... I have a whole other life in my imagination that no on else knows about... I wish I were dead... My father was a good man... Even though my father was a good man, I didn't love my father... 567 questions like that. Here's some more... I'm afraid of germs... I have thoughts that I can't talk about with anyone... If I see an acquaintance from high school, I wouldn't speak to them unless they spoke to me first... I would like to be a lawyer... I would like to be a journalist... I would like to report on sports... 567 questions like that.
I also have a copy of the psych eval letter that was sent in approving me for surgery if you want to read it and kind of see how she used this test in her evaluation report. Email me if you want me to send it.

Thanks for your reply Tri****hink it would be interesting to see how they use they results. I know they use the test to generate several different scales and it is where you score along these scales that help them diagnose mental illnesses or certain personality traits.
The Beck is a scale to evaluate depression and the Shipley is an intelligence test. Of the three tests used by this surgeon the MMPI-2 is the most involved. It really seems like a lot. A lot of folks simply have an interview with a psychologist. In some ways this is more than they would do for an in-patient psychiatric treatment program. I guess if I have any issues -- they will surely find them.
My evaluation was done with my surgeron's staff however he was not a Tricare Prime network doctor and this was the dr I had to see if I wanted surgery. Tricare Prime did not pay for my evaluation testing but they did pay for evaluation visit..if that makes sense...in order words before you see the dr they test you , my charge for that was 150, not coverd and the actual time I spent with him was another 150 which was covered.
