Brand New to Florida!

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I am Tara, originally from Connecticut. I used to be a pretty avid poster on those boards but time gets the best of me some times. I just moved to Brevard County this week for work. So far I love it but really miss my friends and family. I'm a wife, a mom, and a Radio DJ. I had Lap RNY the end of last June and swore I would be that one person that this surgery did not work for. Well, it worked. I passed my goal in about 8 months. Pretty shocking since I feel as though I eat like I used to. But I do know I don't eat NEARLY as much as I used to. Feel free to click on my profile to learn a little more about me. I am currently looking for a good Bariatric Doc and some support groups. Until then, I will keep an eye on the message boards. Thanks! Tara

Tara, Welcome to Florida! I can't help you with a doc or support groups in your area but if you're ever in Tallahasee you're welcome to visit our support group! We have a local DJ who just had his surgery in Dec. You guys could swap work & wls stories!! Vickie J.

Hi Tara, I live in Rockledge, just a few miles north of Melbourne. My folks live in Palm Bay, so I know the area really well. I've lived in Florida for 18 years now. I haven't had the surgery yet, but am schedule for an appt on Mon., 5/9 with Dr Overcash in Ocala (2 hours away). The only doctor in our area that was doing WLS is Dr. Tenewitz. His office is on Wickham Rd near Wuesthoff Hospital. He isn't doing the surgery anymore, but does have support groups and may take you into his care since having the surgery. They are listed on this site but the phone number is incorrect. He is in the phone book though. I'd love to meet you sometime and talk about your expeirence. I have several friends and acquaintance in the area that have had the surgery, but I don't believe they attend any type of support group. There is also a support group that meets once a month at Celebration Health - Florida Hospital on the 1st Wed of each month. It is with US Bariatrics with Dr. Kim and meets at 7:30 p.m. That is about an hour & a half from Melbourne. Hope this helps you. Lori
