HELP 2 WEEKS UNTIL SURGURY....WHAT SHOULD I BE DOING???
I am scheduled for a RNY Lap surgury June 7, 2005...I am having 2nd thoughts about this as they called and said my Pre Op was June 2 but didin't really tell me what I should be doing. I am about 100 lbs. overweight. The girl said just try not to gain anymore weight??? I read where people are doing different things before the surgery..?? I will not lie I am getting scared of this whole thing. Any positive words will be appreciated...Phyllis
Well - Im still pre op too. But I am under the assumption that everyone has these second thought? Everything thinks - oh god what am I doing, is this right for me?!?! And I heard u even think that the day after surgery - but u know what Phyllis - think back to why oyu originally looked into Bariatric Surgery. Was it mental? was it physical? Think of all the thigns your weight has kept you from or how it has hurt you....isnt that reaons enough?
Who will be your doctor?

Phyllis, I had 96 pounds to lose and obviously was approved due to some cormorbidities. I had anxious moments and my family was supportive but felt I didn't need the surgery at all. I've lost 118# in 17 months since my surgery........I'm very satisfied. Granted, I'm thin but my BP is normal, the acid reflux is gone, I have terrific energy and I don't have to take prescription medications anymore. I will keep you in my prayers. (My oldest daughter lives in Port St. Lucie.)

Phyllis,
I too had 2nd thoughts but I knew that I had tried everything else and didn't have another "diet" in me. I put my fears aside and went through with the surgery on 1/19/05 and I'm glad I did. I've lost 105.5 pounds. I feel great.
Everything we do in life involves risks. Having surgery is on the higher end of the risk scale. You have to make the decision that is best for you. Having the surgery was the best decision for me.
I hope you will choose to be happy and content with whatever decision you make.

Sorry for the Hijack!
Rhonda,
I just read your profile and I'm soooo impressed with your success! You're a few weeks ahead of me (1/25/05) but I'm only down 67 lbs.
I noticed the surgery date that shows up on your posts is 1/19/95, not 1/19/05. Just thought you'd like to know so you can correct it.
Keep up the good work!!

Phyllis,
I think almost everyone has 2nd, 3rd.... thoughts about having surgery. For me, the final deciding factors were the same ones that made me pursue WLS in the beginning. I was miserable & unhealthy in my MO body and if I didn't do something to successfully lose weight and KEEP IT OFF I wasn't going to be able to enjoy life.
The decision to have surgery or not is very personal, and you have to do what is right for YOU - never mind what the rest of us have done. Do your research, talk to post-ops, talk to your doctors, pray about it, then follow your heart. But whatever you decide about WLS, take care of yourself and do whatever it takes for YOU to live a healthy life.
