I am just now starting the process of looking into the process in WLS....if anyone can help I would love to talk to anyone who can help in any of these areas...
Had Dr Sharpe as a PCP?
Had Aetna POS?
Can Weigh****chers be used as 6 mo Aetna requirement?
Works for UPS?
Had or see Dr Shariat as surgeon?
Was just at or a little below 40.0 BMI?
Any help I anyone can give me would be great. My email is [email protected] .

Hey Shannon...this is a great place to get ideas. Weigh****chers certainly counts...as for "other programs for weight loss" you can also include physical therapy if you've been for any reason. I had A LOT of PT. My BMI was 40.2...and there is a big difference in requirements for just below vs at 40 or more as far as the ins is concerned. My thought to you...and you can laugh...but I am serious...go to the doctor with jeans, sneakers (or boots) with a belt and a heavier shirt...also DRINK A LOT before your appointment as they take your weight as soon as they see you...after they weigh you, you can run to the bathroom to pee!!!! All of that together will help swing the scale in your favor. A quarter of a pound here and a quarter of a pound there adds up when they are all combined...and that 1 pound can shift you from just under 40 to a 40.
Good luck!!!!
Does WW count as the medically supervised diet that Aetna requires though?? I sure hope so cause if it does then I won't have to do the 6 month diet thing. OHHHH...that would be wonderful!! I don't think that you are silly.....I am planning on doing that. Plus, I have been eating like crazy to gain a few pounds..sounds silly I know. But every one I have talked to said with me being so dang close it would be silly not to. I would rather gain 5 pds in order to lose 90 pounds. Email me if you don't mind....I would love to ask you some more ?????'s
It is my understanding that doing Weigh****chers would count as medically supervised for Aetna...IF your Doctor saw you once a month for weigh in and discussion of progress.
Also Atena for me accepted a 3 month "multidisciplinary" program instead of a 6 months. You might check to see if that might be an option for you too if the WW won't count.
Good Luck!
Linda
I had Aetna POS and Weigh****chers does not count. Weigh****chers even wrote a letter which did not help. I was denied. It has to be 6 months with a physician and a nutritionist that you have to see them once a month. While I was doing that procedure after being denied, I developed high blood preasure, appealed and was approved within a week.
Hope this helps! Email me with any other questions!
Hugs,
Christine
