After my WLS we changed insurance companies..we are now Cigna. I had my bloodwork done in March...I told my PCP I needed B12 and Calcium, he thru more tests in there too. Well the code they put to all of this is for WLS and Cigna won't pay. My PCP's office has changed the codes to include Wellness Check, which were what the other test were...still they won't pay the bill. I have been dealing with this issue since April, I am so darn stressed over this 351.00 bill. I told my husband I won't be getting my blood draw again since I was just told by my PCP office that WLS had to be included since I had it in the past. Funny thing is just think of all the bills they would have to pay if I hadn't had the surgery and lost 162 pounds. Becareful if you change insurance after WLS. Tracey 5'9 327/165 below goal

Wow it shouldn't matter what previous procedure you had done - if you need bloodwork you need bloodwork! Insurance companys are so amazing and it makes me sick that something can't be done within our government to control the games they play with people. Can you tell I'm waiting for ins approval as we speak? LOL Keep fussing with them over the bill, maybe ask your doctor's office to call them! Good Luck to you!

Oh I have fussed with my PCP over this. I started to call people in April over it, finally in June I was told the codes were changed. In July it was resubmitted and Cigna told me the codes weren't changed at all and Labcorp said the same thing...so of course it was denied again. Today, my PCP's office managers assistant said..we added a code for Wellness check up and resubmitted it again. Funny thing is they added that code in June according to Cigna and it was denied. Whenever I talk to someone about it, it is always someone elses fault. They are all crooks I made an appointment with my PCP to have a talk to him about this, he is the only one that can change the codes. I have no problems paying for the WLS related bloodwork it is the extras he added I have issue with. I will see what happens next Tuesday when I go see him. Tracey

Another vote here for Cigna Sucking!! It took me 2 appeals, a lawer, a grievance filed through the state, and 12 months of my life that I will never get back to get coverage. I would get a copy of your policy summary and find everything you can about exclusions for pre-existing conditions.

Tracey--I am pretty sure they need to use some malabsorption code and then it gets covered. I hate Cigna too--thank goodness we don't have it.

My surgeon/PCP use the code for malnutrition to get my bloodwork paid for. I've never had a problem. Of course, I'm with Blue Cross but it's worth a try. Lisa
