Healthease Question?
Can anyone please tell me if Healthease Covers Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery. My Doctor authorized me to have the Surgery because it is Medically necessary. I was then sent to a Surgeon in my area by Healthease to see if I was a candidate for the Surgery and he said yes, but he does not perform the Surgery, that he would write my PCP a referral letter, then for her to notify Healthease to send me to a Out of network Surgeon because there's no Surgeons in my area that perform the Surgeries. Im so lost, I dont know where to begin...Does this sound correct to anyone that has used Healthease. I have a BMI of 49.3 and have all the other things in both sides of my family, exp...high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, migraines, heart attacks, strokes, cancers, etc... so WHAT ARE MY CHANCES?
Hi, I have Healthease and had my surgery a year ago with Dr. Rehnke in St. Pete. If you call his office staff can send you the info packet and all thats required to get approved. I highly recommend him to anyone wanting to have the surgery done. Healthease does require 18 month supervised diet along with medical records from all drs for 2-5 yrs, also must be medically necessary. If you have any questions don't hestitate to contact me and ask. Dr. Rehnke requires you to attend 2 of his seminars/support groups plus an orientation meeting at his office. Good luck with your journey and keep us posted.

I live in the panhandle, the only doctor that I have found so far that accepts Healthease is Dr. Murr in Tampa. I don't know yet which surgeries the insurance covers. I called them today and they told me to call Healthease, in which Healthease told me that they didn't have any info on whether or not they covered the surgery. Dr, Murr's # is 813-844-4576....Hope this helps.
