Am I loosing fast enough???
I had my w l s (rny)1 /4/06 and am down about 62 pounds total. I looked at my weight on march 15th to April 15 is only 12 pounds down. I am 53, so I don't expect to loose like some one in their 20's or 30's,but how many pounds a week is safe to loose? or expected? I try to walk 1 mile aday-4-5 days a week. Any in put from you all will be greatly appreciated!!!! p s my Dr was not pleased with me.
here are a few questions to ask yourself:
1. Are you drinking enough water? How much are you drinking?
2. Are you getting enough Protien? Are you eating your meat first then your veggies?
3. When you do excersise are you trying to increase the distance at least once a week?
These are major thingsthat can jump start your weight loss. You should not expect to do as well as others. We are all made differnet and that expectation will often set yourself up for failure. Be proud of what you ahve done this far and where you are today. Dont look back on yesterday. You cant change the past only the future. Best wishes and happy spring! heather
Peggy,
Congrats, 62 lbs in 4 months is great! Don't forget that!!! When in your life have you ever accomplished that much weight loss in that short a time??? Probably never if you're like most of us!!
I would add to Heather's suggestions / questions:
Are you drinking with your meals?(a no-no for most surgeon's food plans)
Are you drinking too soon after a meal? (my surgeon says 30 min but some say wait 1-1.5 hr.)
Are you eating dense foods, ie: meat, solid fruit & veggies as opposed to soft, easy to digest food? (dense foods take longer to digest & fill you up longer so a little goes a long way)
Are you eating too many starchy carbs (potatoes, corn, bread, etc)? We need carbs, but can get all we need from non-starch foods like fruit & food other than starchy veggies - this one is hard for me b/c I love potatoes, but I try to limit my starches
Are you eating easy to digest, calorie dense foods (mashed potatoes, creamed corn, ice cream, candy, milkshakes, etc) These are things we need to avoid, they don't stick with us long & have too many calories.
Are you eating ENOUGH? This sounds so weird, but if you're not eating enough calories or drinking enough fluids your weight loss will slow down or even stop.
Do you track your daily food/fluid intake? I highly recommend Fitday.com If you enter everything that goes into your mouth, you'll be able to see if you're getting enough protein, or too many carbs or fats, etc. I find it very helpful and still track my food intake every day even though I'm 16 months post-op.
Also, don't compare yourself and your weightloss to others. If you're following the Pourch Rules, exercising and following your surgeon's food plan, you'll lose weight. Take a long hard look at what you're doing, make corrections if you need to and stick with the plan. You'll make it to your goal if you keep at it. Just remember, they operated on your stomach, not your head so the pouch is just a tool for you to use and like all tools, it only works as well as the person using it. Good luck & keep up the good workk!
