Had my consultation!!!
Yipeeeeee!
I'm back home from having my consultation with Dr. Lord. I had already researched his credentials and gotten references and advice from others in the medical field, so I new he was one of the best, but after having face to face consultation with him I am more impressed with him than ever. I've definitely made the right decision in choosing him to do my surgery. And, as an added bonus, I was pleasantly surprised with his sense of humor. :rolf:
They had just moved into their new offices today, and he said I was the first to get on his new examining table. It was nice to be examined on something where you didn't feel like your body was hanging over the edges. It was all remote control and very comfortable. All his furniture was built to accomodate someone who is obese too. I was impressed!! Can you tell I am excited.
We had a nice long discussion. He answered all my questions.
He said at the current time it is taking about 2 months from consultation to surgery. Can you believe it!!?! After almost 3 years of learning and considering WLS it now looks like it soon will be my time to shine!!.
If things go smoothly with all the tests he requires of me then I could be looking at surgery some time in June/July!!!
They scheduled my psych and my appt with the nutritionist. He also ordered extensive blood work, EKG, chest x-ray, and mammogram. He wants me to have ultrasound on both legs since I have bad problems with cellulitis and swelling and he wants to make sure there is not a clot existing prior to surgery just to be on the safe side. He also is requiring me to have the dreaded EGD and colonoscopy which I totally am horrified to even think about
, but I am glad he is such a thorough doctor and wants to check things out so he can be prepared for any potential complications.
He took a before picture. That was the first time in a long time that I allowed someone to take my picture! The best thing about it was for once I didn't have to try to suck in the gut (not that that does any good when you get as big as me anyway).
Y'all keep me in your thoughts and prayers! Thanks to all on this board who have given me so much inspiration and hope. For the first time in my life I feel like I have some hope...just wish I could have had the chance earlier in life.

Betty,
It sounds like you're well on your way to a new life. Will you be pursuing insurance coverage for your surgery? If so, it could delay your date depending on how long your insurance co. takes to make a decision. If not, you'll be having surgery before you know it! Some of the tests are not much fun, but they're worth the trouble if they rule out potential problems.
Good luck and keep at it - you'll be joining us on the loser's bench soon!

Hi Vickie J. - I'm keeping my fingers crossed about the insurance. I've heard things usually go pretty smoothly with my insurance, and Dr. Lord confirmed today that he had done others with my insurance and had no problems. I'm trying to stay prepared for any setbacks, though.
I'm afraid to let myself get too excited, but will hope for the best and handle whatever comes my way.
How's your recovering going from your latest surgery? Oh how I wish I was where you are instead of just beginning my journey.
Betty
